Ten minutes go by without another arrival, and you pat Brian's shoulder and gesture towards the building.

"I think we're good. Let's go." He nods and follows you into the building, where you press the board and push the secret door open. Using your cell phone for a light source, you lead Brian down the spiral staircase and into what you've decided to call the dressing room. There are four white robes hanging from hooks, and eight neatly folded stacks of clothes under empty hooks.

"Last night there were only three robes," you whisper to Brian. "Maybe the last girl is late."

"Should we leave?"

You think for a moment, then shake your head. "I think we should risk it. The balcony is pretty dark, so even if she does show up she might not see us."

You listen at the door and hear the same muffled chanting as last night. Easing the door open, you step through onto the balcony, Brian slipping in behind you. Like last night white robed and hooded figures stand around the altar, answering the Latin chant led by a red robed figure on the dias, while another sits regally in a throne. Again, as happened last night the chant changes from Latin to English.

"We are the Sisters of the White Briary, the Keepers of the Pure Light, the Guardians of the Thorn." The white robed girls echo the words in unison.

"We are the Chosen. We are Stainless. We are the Righteous." Once again the words are repeated.

"We hold the Truth, the Virtue, and the Judgement. So it is, so it shall ever be, and so it has been since the beginning." These last words are not echoed and the scarlet robed figure steps back and sits in the empty chair. The other figure steps forward, casting back its hood to reveal a mask of alabaster whiteness in the form of a classical Roman or Greek goddess.

"Let us begin," a woman's voice says with authority, looking around the circle of white hooded girls.
