You searched your heart and mind all night and realized that after twelve years together if she was willing to throw it away for a guy she hated then you needed to move on. By the time you'd somewhat settled on it it was almost noon the next morning. You met Whitney at her mom's house, she was clearly still upset from last night.

"Burt, I'm glad you called," she said as you sat down together, "I was worried I wouldn't hear from you."

"I wouldn't just walk out on you after twelve years," you said.

She seemed to lighten up at that until you added the, "but. I don't think I can forgive you."

"Burt," she said softly taking your hand, "please, just give it time, a few months and see if you change your mind, I can't lose you."

"Fine," you said after chewing on it for a minute, "I'll get my own place."

"Keep the apartment," she said, "it's the least I can do."

You got up and pulled away from Whitney's grasp.

"Goodbye Whit," you said leaving.

The next week was rough, the next wasn't much better and you decided to find something to take your mind off of Whitney, you decided to focus on work, you took after school activities, you showed up early for bussing, god help you you even went to PTA meetings.

Despite all of that you were still thinking about Whitney, about how she hurt you.
