Chapter 35 by SingingLark SingingLark

Will she drink it?

No

Not yet

Liandra smiled when she saw the bottle, but decided she just didn't have to decide yet. The old woman's mischief and her carnal lust left the princess wondering if she really needed it. Perhaps Prince Mortimer wasn't so stiff as she though. Perhaps there was room for compromise.

Things were still busy at court, and Liandra's work schedule was enough to occupy what before were idle mornings and lazy evenings. She found the satisfaction much to her liking, even if the cold bed distressed her every night.

Liandra saw Ophelia talk to a young, willowy noblewoman, and felt the sting of jealousy. She watched them from afar, and wondered how far did the summoner woven her seduction? But she wasn't about to intrude on her privacy.

She was lost in her daydreamings when she felt a hand touch her shoulder. She turned to see a young man she didn't recall seeing before, he had a certain austere expression to his chin. He was tanned and very handsome.

"Princess Liandra?" He asked, and she curtsied. He had a pleasant smile, but it seemed a bit too practiced for her. "It is good to finally meet you" He took her hand "I am Prince Mortimer, your faithful servant" The princess felt her cheeks blush as he took her fingers to his lips, a light kiss with such charm as she never felt before.

"I imagine my arrival came as quite a surprise" Liandra noticed she was standing with her mouth open "but truth be told, legends of your beauty and grace kept me awake day and night, I was unable to sleep or rest, or even fight. All I could think of was you" He kissed her fingers again, his words were so smooth, suave. And also oddly familiar.

"Don Cagnion?" Liandra asked suspicious, and the shock in his face proved her correct. He was quoting the work, although it wasn't one that had impressed her much. Too much action, not enough plot, and the dialogues were just morose. Mortimer made a **** laugh.

"Your beauty and grace shine so bright my courtier must have forgotten to note your wits and smarts." Liandra resists frowning, but that didn't feel like flattery. "You are correct, of course." His tone was condescending.

"A shame he was so befuddled he forgot to return and announce your arrival, we would have loved to prepare for you a big reception" The prince was still holding her hand, and Liandra found herself disliking him more and more with each passing moment.

"He tried, it just so happens I have the fastest horse in the realms" The princess finally decides to forego manners and yank her hand free of his grasp. She fakes a smile.

How will Liandra threat the prince?
