Chapter 31 by Cantalope Cantalope

When do you make your move?

No sense wasting time...

You wish Dana could replicate the heal spell she'd used on you yesterday but after some intense praying she tells you it's hopeless. "I don't know what happened when the spiders attacked but I'm not feeling any divine connection now. Why don't you just use your...um...y'know..." Oh god. Herbal Flow has healing properties...

We shall never discuss this again. "Agreed."

After some terribly awkward healing you're back to full health, feeling a little dirtier but ready to go on a witch hunt. Dana has insisted on coming with you since it's "not safe at the Lair." You seriously question the wisdom of taking her along but the look she gives you when you say you'll tie her up makes it clear that if you do she won't be here when you get back. Wading slowly through the forest you find your natural camouflage is quite effective, scaring numerous imps shitless as they try to land on you. You are especially careful when you pass the first webs, slowing to a crawl that has Dana stifling groans of boredom. But all the webs you find seem deserted and it doesn't take you long to find out why.

Through the trees you can barely make out flashes of light, followed a few moments later by small cracks, pops, and the occasional BOOM. Yep, looks like the witch found the spiders. As you edge closer you can see the spiders scuttling about in the canopy, circling their prey. You can see others are still arriving from across the zone. Wow, she's been at it for a while to draw this many. Now that you're here you thank your lucky stars you brought Dana: so long as a hero yet lived in their territory, the spiders couldn't respawn. If you killed the witch without Dana, you'd have potentially hundreds of very angry arachnids bearing down on you. You clutch her tightly to you, hidden in your leaves, as the colorful explosions draw nearer...

The battle...
