No secrets

As you pull your hands back and sit down again Maureen gets a nervous look on her face.

"Uh, now that we pledged and everything, I have a secret to tell. May the circle be unbroken."

You all look at her expectantly.

"You know I'm the star of the basketball team, right?" Everybody knows that. "Well, I'm holding back. A lot. I can't show you here because the ceiling's too low but I can jump almost seven feet vertically with no run-up, and I have to deliberately miss the basket sometimes so it doesn't look suspicious."

Olivia responds, "You too? I thought I was the only one that had to reign myself in; I have to hold myself back so I don't run the quarter mile faster than a full sprint."

"O.M.G." says Tianna, "Well, me three. And I noticed that almost all the guys and some of the girls always seem to look my way when I come into the room."

"That's because you make a big entrance," you say, holding your hands so they'd be supporting boobs her size. "Anyway, that means four of us have to deliberately not show our full potential. What about you, Jess?"

"Me?" She stands up and her usual enigmatic smile turns wicked. "I have the power to control minds! Bwa-ha-ha-ha-haaah!"

Everybody's mouth drops open and Jess snaps a picture with her phone.

"Ha-ha, you guys look so great! No, I can't control minds, I'm just smart. I'm not super-physical, but stuff kind of comes to me; I've been doing college-level studying on the side since seventh grade, and I hate to say it but I figured out the truth about all of you months ago. My guess is we're some kind of better model of human, though not all in exactly the same way. Mo has ballistic ability, Liv has speed, Tia has charisma, and Ari has agility. I have the perception and the brain-power."

You say what everyone else is probably thinking. "So we're superheroes?"

Jess responds, "Only if we choose to be. We have super powers, if you want to call them that, but that doesn't mean we have to put on color-coordinated spandex and beat people up in public. We can do whatever we want."

"So," asks Maureen, "What do we want to do?"
