Chapter 14
by No.Eight
An easy task... Yeah right!
No problem for a knight and a demon!
You quickly reclothe yourself and, drawing your sword, rush from the room with Kira at your heels. "Do you know where Fae's room is?"
"Mistress Morrin said it's on the third floor," Kira answers. "She liked to boast that she kept the servant in the draughtiest, coldest part of the tower." Together, you make your way to the third floor. Peering round a corner along one of the corridors, you see Barthis standing outside an open door. You can hear Morrin's voice coming from within.
"Can you take him out?" you whisper to Kira, motioning towards him. She shakes her head.
"He is a djinn, and I am only a succubus. He would likely destroy me before I could get close. I could defeat Morrin, though, if I had the flame-haired one's help."
"Right. Here's what's going to happen- I'll distract Barthis, and you get inside that room. Free Fae and take down Morrin. Barthis ought to disappear once she's dead, right?"
"But he'll kill you!" she cries. "I don't want to see the best fuck I ever had get killed!"
You smirk. "You won't. I only need to distract him for a bit. And as I recall, djinn like to play around with their enemies rather than kill them outright- he'll fight me on fair terms for sport." She still doesn't look certain, but you're not going to give her a choice. "Alright, ready? Let's go!"
You dash round the corner, sword ready. Barthis sees you coming, but seems too surprised to do anything and doesn't react quickly. You sprint past him, slashing at his chest and opening a wound that gushes green blood. He turns with a howl and follows you down the corridor away from the room.
You spin to face him. He could just kill you with magic, you know that, but you were right- he wants sport. Four claws ten inches long protrude from each hand, all of them aflame with black fire. He grins at you with sharp teeth as he stalks towards you. Over his shoulder, you see Kira slip into the room.
Barthis takes a swipe at you- you duck under it and bring your sword up to stab at his stomach. He knocks it aside with his claws and lunges for you. You're **** to throw yourself into a forward roll to dodge, then you come upright again with your sword swinging in an arc about you. Barthis goes into a frenzy, slashing wildly at you with his claws. You can barely dodge the strikes- but suddenly he stops, freezing in his tracks.
Smoke coils about him, consumes him, and then he's gone for good. You rush into the other room to find Fae there, standing before a heap of ash on the floor. "Did you do it? Did Kira get you free?" you ask.
"Yes," Fae answers. "How did you bring her under your control?"
"It's a long story."
Fae stares at the heap of ash on the floor, which was previously Morrin."She's gone," she murmurs, hardly daring to believe. "She's gone- at last, she's gone!" She embraces you and holds you tight. "Thankyou Sir John, thankyou!"
Fae tells you that you can take anything that you find in the tower and keep it for your own as payment for saving her. While she herself rifles through the parchments and enchanted items, gasping in delight at all the wondrous things that Morrin kept hidden from her, you have a nose around yourself. There's not much that interests you though; a bag of money which you share with Fae (you would feel bad if you took it all and left her with none) is about all.
Fae also gives you a ring she finds among Morrin's possessions which bears the insignia of a shield. She says that it will protect you from all mid-level spells; though not those such as the disintegrating beam she used on Morrin.
You've retired to your room and are just thinking of going to bed when there's a knock at the door and Fae enters.
What does she want?
