Chapter 6 by mespot mespot

Try overpowering her?

No. Try to calm her down.

I remove my gun and place it on the bed in front of me. She gasps, not realizing I was armed. Maybe knowing that I'm not will help her.

"Listen to me, Lucy. You're in a shitty situation right now. I appreciate that, I do." I sit on the bed, my right leg bent underneath me. I try to appear less threatening than I know I must.

"You're nuts. You need to go."

I sigh. "I'm not going anywhere just yet. Don't worry, I'm not going to hurt you. Here, take my gun if it'll make you feel better." I gesture, showing that I mean it. I'm not stupid, the safety's on, and I would wager she's never shot a gun before in her life. This isn't a gambit so much as it is a reassurance.

She grabs the gun quickly. Already, I can see she's feeling safer. A word of advice, when talking someone down, say their name a lot. I read that somewhere, it seems to help.

"Lucy, I'm not leaving. You'll have to accept that, because I'm here to help you, and I'm afraid I'm the only one who is."

She looks at the bed, at the pictures, and then at me. "Your name's Grant? Where's Rae?"

I try not to laugh. "Sorry. I had to knock her out to get here. She's fine, she's downstairs resting."

I'm not sure if that helped or not.

Is it working? Is she calming down?
