Does anything of note happen on the drive?
No, surprisingly
The drive to the beach was long but pleasant, David and Laylah spent the time talking and taking turns playing songs on the car stereo.
By the time David got done complaining about the fifth song in a row from a fucking video game, they could see the ocean and within 20 minutes they were driving by the sandy beaches looking for parking.
"This shit is such a racket. I remember when I was little you didn't have to pay for fuckin' parking we could just unload anywhere." David complained sourly.
"Maybe you DID have to but your parents just broke the law a lot." Laylah suggested.
"YOU break the law a lot." David rebutted, referencing the numerous times in the past Laylah had forgotten to wear pants of a shirt to public places, but Laylah misunderstood it as a reference to a movie or something and just laughed politely.
Finally, Laylah convinced David to just suck it up and pull into a paid parking lot. They got their ticket and found a spot midway between the entrance and the beach access bridge. They unloaded their things, well, David's things, and began lugging it all on foot.
The beach was crowded but not obnoxiously so, "Good if you get mauled by a shark. Safety in numbers!" Laylah commented as they searched for a nice place to set their things. David was very particular about this stuff and The bikini-clad girl got impatient waiting for him to decide and she just dumped the umbrella and his beach bag n the sand where she stood. David grumbled as he parked the cooler and began setting up the umbrellas.
