Chapter 32 by Forcy Forcy

Does Zhang gets bitten?

No, but it was a close one

You grunted, using your rifle to push back against the snarling zombie just inches away from sinking its rotten teeth into your carotid artery. It worked but the walker's broken hand got stuck around the trigger area in the process and another shot went off.

You cursed as you stumbled back to your feet, the recoil hitting you from an unprepared angle as your XM10 semi-automatic slipped from your grip. The zombie then started rushing towards you again, and you flinched as you tried to unsheathe your trusty Ka-bar 5599 U.S. Army Fighting Fixed knife to get ready. The biter, however, got too close for comfort before you could manage to get out of dodge but a split second before it could bite you, you heard a loud thud followed by a toe-curling crushing sound.

You blinked rapidly, realizing that Johnathan had just saved your life with his hardy baseball bat. He looked down at the now truly still corpse with a wince, its broken skull a bloody mess. He seemed shaken.

So, you did what felt right and placed a hand on his arm. He turned his conflicted eyes to you.

"You promised to watch my back and you did," You said softly but loud enough to be clear. "Thank you. I won't forget it."

The former highschool football star nodded to himself almost imperceptibly as he gave you a sad smile, before resting the bloodied tip of his bat on the floor. And soon, Jeremy was on them, rushing to check on his son to make sure he was alright. Once assured that he had not been bitten and that neither were you, he gave his son a bear hug and told him that he was so proud of him.

The scene made you smile but then it tightened, thinking back on your mother, your father, and your 10 sisters. You knew that they were able to survive the first bloody night of this chaotic madness because you had personally escorted them all to safety to your dad's houseboat and urged them to get out of Los Angeles, before finding an island somewhere they could ride this storm out. Then, you admitted that you were being sent to the city of San Diego with your Special Forces group when your mother had asked about where you were being sent next, her eyes sick with worry. And finally, you watched them sail away, fearing for their safety.

Still, that was on the confusion of Day 1. They were all in the second week of this unprecedented disaster by now, and the weather report on their collective future seemed worse and bleaker than even the record-breaking, Category Six Hurricane Neptune was back in 2029. And now you weren't as sure as before that there would be a way to truly weather this storm before the pandemic and its undead virus burned off...

Then your eyes hardened, knowing you wouldn't be you if you didn't try anyway. Your loved ones, your teammates, your new group, and your one true owner expected nothing but your best in your struggle for survival until this plague has run its course.

And you did not intend to disappoint.

"The supermarket is now clear, guys," You reminded them. "And we have a supply mission to fulfill. Let's get to work."

They nodded in agreement and they followed you to get more wheeled carts.

A/N: It was good to see so many of you getting invested in Zhang :D

Now, let's see if everyone in the other teams will be as lucky as her...
