Chapter 14 by Manbear Manbear

Do you have Lady Relia show him the letter?

No, but Relia convinces him anyway

"Lady Kiriakolis here is a high ranking ambassador from the High Council of Athenapolis, she asked for my help in defecting to your side." You explain holding Relia gently by the arm, "she has information about a plot to break this siege."

"She doesn't look like a high-ranking ambassador." The officer sniffs at Relia's immodest clothing and flushed face, "she looks more like a tasty **** you dragged along to pass the time as you fled from the city." To your surprise Relia pulls her arm free and slaps the surprised officer on his left cheek nearly knocking his helmet off his head.

"How dare you even look at me?!" Her voice was as sharp and contemptuous as you remembered from when you first met. "This pig stripped me if my robes and veil, had his way with my slavegirl" she pivots easily away from your half-hearted attempt to grab her arm and keep her from doing anything else that could get you both killed, "then he stole my possessions and all but **** me while I was helplessly bound to his drake." She draws herself to her full height and points at you with what you hope is feigned anger. "I want him eviscerated and hung out for the crows to feast on his intestines for the last remaining hours of his miserable life!"

You can see the young officer re-evaluate both you and Lady Relia. It is a risky gambit, but there is no longer any question about whether Lady Relia has the where-with-all to be an important courier sent by the High Council. The only question now is whether the officer will bring you to the United Army command with her or take you directly to the stocks to be tortured by nasty folks whose nature it is to not believe anything said to them until their subjects have been thoroughly broken. Either way, the information about Prince Anochises will likely get to the people who need to hear it, but you'd rather not have to have go through the pain of interrogation unnecessarily.

To your great relief, the officer agrees to pass you on to his superior. As you make your way through the camp in the arms of two burly hoplites Relia gives you the slightest wink, which you find almost as much of a relief as the young officer's decision to pass the responsibility on to someone at a higher pay grade.

The next officer is a senior attendant to the Lord Marshal himself. This man could not be persuaded by **** of will alone, but when you ask him if Prince Anochises had arrived yet to join the United Armies his eyes widen slightly in surprise.

"We just got word that he had changed his mind and had decided to apologize for his rudeness and beg to be allowed to join the **** on the Citadel to atone for offending Apollo." He tapped his fingers impatiently on the wooden table. "Where did you hear that?"

"The information Lady Kiriakolis has involves his arrival." Relia glares at you, once again looking more like the proud noblewoman who had slapped the young Captain just minutes ago.

"All right," he sighs in frustration "I'll get you and Lady Kiriakolis a few minutes to make your case with Lord Raxius. Make it good, My Lady or that fine ass of yours will be sent to one of the mercenary camps for them to play with and my ass will be cleaning the drake-roosts."

Relia shudders by your side when she hears the officer's words, to escape from the city only to be given as a reward to those same men is likely a fate about as bad as she could imagine.

Does Lord Raxius believe Lady Relia, or does this turn out as bad as you initially feared?
