Chapter 31 by StabilizerEmerald StabilizerEmerald

Do you push her?

No, best to let this one develop slowly.

The idea of taking this naive Southern Belle here and now crosses your mind. You could easily make some excuse about experiential learning and make your move. But how much better will it be if you can watch her virtue erode in real time?

“Well… I’ve been toying with an idea that might relieve some of the stress of being exposed to new ideas.” It’s hard to contain your sarcasm.

“What Mr. Turner?”

“After a few of these one-on-one meetings, I’ve begun to think that it might benefit us to change the format of the class from one large discussion group to a few smaller discussion groups each meeting once per week. It would be two or three of you and myself discussing the books on the syllabus more intentionally. Each small group could set their own tones and focuses. If whoever you’re paired with agreed to deemphasize any adult themes, you would have to talk about it less and in front of fewer people.”

Cherie considers for a moment. “I think that would be better Mr. Turner. For me at least.”

“I’ll take that under consideration, I appreciate the input Miss Finch.” You glance at the clock. “Well, unless there’s anything else, I’d say this has been a very productive conversation.”

Cherie stands. “Thank you Mr. Turner!”

You nod as she leaves the classroom. You still have 30 minutes before your next class. Plenty of time to make a few changes to your syllabus for your Poetry elective.

Third Period: Who’s in the Poetry class?
