Chapter 4

Do I stop her?

No, I don't stop her

Oh shit! She did it! The crazy bitch was actually standing there shirtless, a plain white bra shaking on her chest as she heaved sobs. She was cute with her clothes on. Beautiful with her shirt off. Long dark, hair, just the way I liked. I think this was... Inez?

“What the fuck?” I could hear a voice in the distance. Apparently we had been noticed.

“Put your shirt back on,” I said, shaking my head in amusement. As she trembled and hurried to cover her chest again, I decided to try one more test. “Give me your wallet.”

The woman looked hurt. Upset. But still she pulled out her wallet. Just before she handed it to me, she paused. She quickly started pulling everything out of it – cash, license, cards, all of it. Once she was done, she handed me an empty wallet.

“Why did you do that?” I asked.

“You told me to give you my wallet. But I need the stuff in it.”

“Then why give me your wallet to begin with?”

“Because you told me to,” she replied, frustrated. Before I could ask anything else, she went on. “Look, I don't know what kind of magical shit this, but the app said you captured me and I have to obey you. I thought it was weird, so I uninstalled it. But now, every time you tell me to do something, I don't have a choice. I have to do it, whether I want to or not. I just hoped I'd never run into you.”

I could play this game a little longer, I guess. "OK, give me everything that was just in your wallet.”

“No,” she cried. But it wasn't a refusal. It was a cry of defeat. She handed it all to me.

What the hell had I gotten myself into? Either she was messed up crazy, or something freaky was happening. When I had the time, I'd need to look into it.

Time? Shit – I was going to be late. I shoved the handful of stuff back at her and looked around to get my bearings. My meeting was two blocks away, but I could make it if I hurried. I slipped on the new jacket and yanked at the tags on the sleeve.

As I turned to leave, the woman spoke with a restrained voice, failing to suppress her emotions. “Please. Please Ron. Just unmatch me. Please.”

I was too deep in thought to continue the conversation. As I walked away from her, I said, “Can't, I deleted it. I'll talk to you once I figure all this out.”

As I took a few steps down the street, a thought occurred to me. I quickly turned back and called out to Inez. “Hey, uh... don't tell anyone about this. And don't come after me or anything. I'll... I'll find you once I figure this out.” We'll see if that worked. No time for it now. I had a meeting to get to.
