Niery's troubles 3 {The Swamp}

The fox hopped out of the hammock but immediately regretted her choice. Immediately her muscles ached as a reminder of her prior encounter. Taking a moment to recover she scanned her surroundings. Her boots and leather clothes were neatly placed on the side of the tree but her other possessions weren't there, without a weapon she wouldn't get far..

She looked around her as if a weapon would just magically present itself. Something shimmering stood out in the corner of her eye and she recognized the curve-shaped Kopesh blade, it must have fallen when she was carried here but she doubted she was meant to keep it. Either way, it saves her from having to improvise a weapon or venture back into that cave labyrinth.

Without any sense of location or direction, she has to try her luck. If she doesn't make it back to her own village there is bound to be another somewhere out there. Worst case scenario she does backtrack to this place and try the mountain pass, if there even is one..
For now, she can only choose to walk away from the mountain, at least it serves as a good landmark.

She does check the entire clearing before she decides to abandon it, if there are any clues, instructions or items she's missed them. Considering the clearing isn't that big she assumes there are none to be found and that it's best to head out now that it's still day and her body is nourished for the time being. The trees start to cluster together, slowly forming an actual forest. This however appears to be a facade because once she takes a few more steps it seems like she crosses into another plane of existence entirely. In front of her as the eye can see is a swamp clouded in a thick fog. Behind her, the mirage is displayed on a magical barrier of sorts as a last line of defence against the swamp or whatever lurks inside..
If anything at least it stands out like a sore thumb if she needs to head back.

The swamp has an occasional weeping tree scattered, or a rock sticking out from the heel-high murky water. She decides to mark the first tree she sees with her Kopesh, but as soon as she leaves the vicinity of the barrier it disappears. She heads back but the bright forest place does not reappear. It looks like she's stuck here for now..

Well, that makes marking her path pointless and it would avoid dulling the edge of her blade. She decides to just head for each small landmark she comes across, for now, it's just some trees or a rock. She hops from one rock to another, pausing for a moment. She thought she heard something but couldn't spot anything out of the ordinary.

  • Roll d6 for encounter: 1.

Her feet sink back into the low-standing water. There are a few trees up ahead relatively close to one another.
She walks in between them until she's stopped in her tracks.

Suddenly ropes bind around her ankles, preventing her movement, she immediately drops into a crouch, reaches for her Khopesh and trys to cut herself loose.
These aren't ropes.. they are vines!
