Newcomer to the Commonwealth

Moon walked down the desolate path towards her old home. The bones of the dead scattered the grounds. Moon had made it to her home only to get a surprise, one that was welcomed. Codsworth was still functioning and still recognized her, even after two hundred years. The two would reclaim the town from the bugs that had made their home in the town. Moon made her way to the cellar of the room; checking if some of the personal effects had survived. Some of these were family portraits, some were medals that Nate had gained through his service, and some were clothing that she had received from her side of the family. Moon removed the cloth that covered the portraits; revealing dusted, aging portraits. Faded and deteriorating, time was not forgiving on these portraits. Her medals fared a bit better; some had rusted beyond recognition, however one survived fairly intact. Finally she checked an old locked foot locker. The lock had rusted beyond any practical use; shocked by how easy it was to bust it open. Inside the foot locker were some very old kimonos; a gift from her Grandparents she cherished so much.

Moon had been a third generation immigrant; her Grandparents had moved to the USA sometime after WWII. Moon very much wanted to experience her heritage; however the people of the USA were enemies of the Chinese and a Japanese person very much looks like a Chinese person. Suffice to say the most patriotic thing to do was to denounce the Chinese menace or risk imprisonment from old Uncle Sam. The garments were beyond wearable, however maybe she could restore them. That would be a project for another day; she had to look for provisions and other materials needed for survival. Unfortunately her stock of emergency supplies had gone bad. Though with enough looking around she would find some supply that could keep her alive for a month if rationed heavily. Moon was ready to settle down and rebuild her life, though a lonely life it would be without her husband or son; Codsworth was there, but he could only do so much to fill the human requirements of human socialization that she needed.

With the urging of Codsworth, and a 10mm pistol she got from the vault; Moon headed out to Concord, where Codsworth had seemingly spotted life. Moon passed by the local Red Rocket Truck stop, meeting a fine German Shepard she affectionately called Hound. It may sound a bit simple, but hey who was there to criticize her in this post apocalyptic world. The two headed on to Concord, of which was deserted, though most of its structures had remained. Moon could hear the undeniable sounds of gunfire in the distance. Moon had made her way to the nearest piece of cover; though curiosity had gotten the better of her. Gun fire was a good sign that life was around; whether they were hostile was a different story. Peering from cover, she saw a fire fight ensue with a ragged band of misfits gunning a man above them; said man was on the balcony of the Concord Museum. Moon debated whether to get involved, she didn’t know any of these people and could hardly determine the motives of which started this fight. Though fate **** her hand when Hound barked revealing another group of these people; who immediately opened fire on her. Moon returned fire; taking out those that fired at her, eventually the town was devoid of the shrieks of gunfire. The man waved her into the building; with some hesitancy she entered and proceeded to mop the floor with these bandits. Meeting up with the group stranded in the balcony room; the man who seemed like he was in charge was Preston Garvey. The group of six had holed up after numerous tragedies; that at the time they didn’t really have time to go into details. All that was important was a group of Raiders were attacking them and they needed a way out.

Sturges came up with a brilliant plan of using an old crashed Vertibird chaingun and suit of armor; that they found while scouting out an escape from this place. Now brilliant was overstating it a bit; either they brute **** their way out with civilians or they try using a highly advanced powered armor suit without any experience. Though it was faint, Moon remembered something her husband once said; something about a limited quantity of special power armor sets made to bypass the requirements of training. A top secret thing, something that only the boys could speculate; it was the secret win scenario or something. It was worth a shot after they acquired a fusion core from the basement of the museum; Moon made her way to the roof, while a man guarded the door, and Preston Gravey gave covering fire from the balcony. Moon found herself in front of a T-60 power armor set, rusted to hell for sure but still usable; divine favor smiled down on Moon as the machine was one of those rare sets that was civilian friendly, well as friendly as one can get for a top of the line military asset. Moon hopped in and rampaged across the group of raiders with the mini gun. With the last of the ammo wasted and lodged in the fresh bullet ridden corpses of the raiders; Moon made her way back to the museum to make sure the group of survivors had made it through their ordeal. To both parties relief all had survived with little harm. Preston gave a reward to Moon only to rejet it; I mean what was she going to do with a bunch of bottle caps, though not saying it aloud and politely declining. Though Preston understood it in a different way, admiring her bravery and selflessness; though there was little time to do so. The longer they waited here the more likely another raider patrol stumbled upon them and more conflict would ensue.

Preston offered to take Moon to Sanctuary, the place they were heading to. Moon accepted, though she was arguably living there already, and had wanted to find other people in the first place. The group made it to Sanctuary: Mama Murphy had settled down into a chair, her old bones barely carrying her anymore; Jun and Marcy Long had made themselves useful in the fields, setting up a nice little farm, Sturges with the help of Moon and Codsworth had fortified the whole town, a nice wall, a few guard posts, and interesting enough a semi-working turret at one of the entrances to the town; Moon along with Gravy and a lad Reginald Miller took turns guarding the town. Two months had passed in a blink of an eye. Moon for all her grief and nightmares of losing her loved ones and life before; had grown to enjoy her new life. Though Preston was never satisfied with this life; something in the way he acted told Moon that Preston wanted to do something more. It was when he approached her that fate happened upon her once more.
