New Developments

Nate was sitting with a couple of his close friends, eating lunch like always, when Rosie Williams approached him and asked if she could speak to him in private. Nate and Rosie were not friends, in fact, they were barely on speaking terms and had only the barest of interactions in the past. He did recall a group project that they'd done together the year before last. Rosie had quite enjoyed it. She was very studious.
She was also pretty, in a cute way. She was far from the most attractive girl at school, but she had red hair, freckles, green eyes and a button nose which made her look a bit like a kitten. She always wore girly clothes, which is what Sam had been teasing her for, but Nate thought they suited her quite well. Rosie looked like the kind of girl who would spend her weekends having tea parties with stuffed animals. She listened to weird, quirky music, watched a lot of foreign films, and Nate knew that she ate organic food as much as possible. Outside of that one project though, their interaction had been limited, so why could she possibly want to talk to him.

"Hey Nate," She began, "I just wanted to say thank you for dealing with Sam."
"How did you know about that," Nate demanded "She wasn't supposed to tell anyone."
"Sam didn't tell me anything." Rosie said. "I put it together myself. You saw her being mean to me earlier in the week, teasing me for my girly clothes, then for the last few days Sam has worn clothes so girly even I wouldn't be caught dead in them. She also used to snipe at you a lot. She was quick to tease you. Now, she tiptoes around and watches every word she says when she's around you. Her behaviour and clothing choices have changed so much that I thought you must've done something. I'm not sure what you did, or how you did it, but Sam has stopped being mean to me, so I just wanted to say thanks." Nate was stunned into silence, floored by her deductive skills.
"W...well," Nate stammered "You're welcome Rosie. I can't say how I did it, but I can promise you that Sam will leave you alone from now on."
"That's all I wanted to hear. Thanks again so much Nate. There should be more men like you in this world." Rosie said, with a cheeky smile on her face. "You're like my own personal knight in shining armour, and I figure I should reward my knight at the very least by buying him dinner. Here's my phone number, call me and let me know what time you're free, sweetie." With that, Rosie gave Nate a quick peck on the cheek and darted off.

Nate pondered this new development. He hadn't really thought about Rosie, and he certainly hadn't helped her expecting a reward, but now it seemed she was really into him. If he played his cards right, he wouldn't even need to use his powers to get Rosie to sleep with him.
