Chapter 5

World of?
Mysterra
Reader blinked and found himself in a massive outdoor courtyard. He was standing smack in the middle of a weird circle of interlocking symbols on the ground which glowed with a soft, eerie, blue light.
For some reason, the glowing symbols and the circle immediately clicked with Reader and he knew right away that it was a basic summoning magic circle.
“Wisdom of Maerlin,” The Goddess’s voice echoed in Reader’s head as he was wondering how the hell he could suddenly decipher magic circles.
Reader didn’t have much time to relish his newly acquired expertise however. He quickly realized that he was not alone. Not by a long shot. In fact, he seemed to be standing in the middle of a crowd who had gathered around the magic circle at a respectable distance. The people around him were all pretty young and they all wore attires of pretty much standardized colors. They sported white blouses with teal-green pants or skirts and matching jackets, usually coupled with burgundy cloaks or scarves.
They certainly gave off a student body vibe, but several things stood out. Firstly, many of them appeared armed with weapons like staves, swords, spears and whatnot. One of them was even comically lugging around a massive hammer that looked like it weighed five times his own weight.
Secondly, everyone was so fucking attractive. Reader felt like he was in a teen movie-shoot or something. Lastly, there seemed to be a great diversity in hair colors. Either this school doesn’t have any rules against dying one’s hair or….
Holy shit, I’m in a fucking anime, aren’t I? Reader thought to himself.
While most of the hundred or so students that had gathered maintained about a two meter distance from the edge of the magic circle, there were six others who were cautiously pacing back and forth along the circle boundary. These six individuals, a mixture of male and female, wore the same uniform styles but with navy blue colors instead of teal green. They also seemed taller than the other gathered students and moved with a much more confident gait which gave the impression to Reader that they were upperclassmen of sorts.
The six older students also wore ornate silver metal masks with engraved runes but no eye-holes that completely hid their faces and made them look like cyborgs. They each carried pole-arms as well, which they carried slung against their shoulders.
Glancing ahead, Reader saw that there was some sort of commotion playing out at the edge of the magic circle before him.
There were a handful of people in front of him. One is an absolutely lovely and striking woman with long, layered, ash-blonde hair who was dressed in a figure hugging black gown with a high thigh slit that revealed much of her smooth pale, tapered leg. She wore a pair of round silver rimmed spectacles, giving her a distinguised professor look and she was busy flipping through a thick open tome which was floating in mid-air in front of her. She seemed quite flustered indeed. There were two young men and another young woman standing around her, each carrying more thick old tomes. They weren’t wearing student uniforms, but rather, plain white clothes and grey cloaks with an embroidered insignia, which suggested that they were aides of some sort.
There was one final person nearby the professor-lady and her aides. It was a girl in a teal-green, knee-length, student skirt and long-sleeved white blouse. Her burgundy cloak was draped down casually her left side. She had long, wavy, vibrant ginger-blonde hair and beautiful pale face which was currently slightly flushed pink. At the moment, she was on her knees at the edge of the magic circle before Reader. She looked mighty flustered and was panting, as if exerted, but she was also gawking at Reader with a slightly gaping mouth.
“Erm… A shapeshifter-type perhaps?” The professor lady could be heard muttering to her aides, “They sometimes take human form don’t they?”
“Yes mistress,” said the female aid, “But don’t they usually just mimic what’s in front of them?”
“Gah! What the hell is this thing then?” The professor lady snapped.
“Perhaps it’s a unique Champion?” One of the male aides asked.
“We could just get Erissa to ask it later. For now, we should complete the ritual,” the other male aide said.
The professor lady sassily snapped her fingers and the floating tome slammed shut. The female aide scrambled to catch the tome before it dropped to the ground.
“Looks like we have little choice,” the professor said. “Erissa, you are now permitted to commune with your summon. Please be cautious as we have not yet identified it and thus have no way of expecting what it’ll do.”
The ginger-blonde nodded demurely. She got up on her feet before warily stepping into the summoning circle.
“Tell the prefects to be ready for anything,” the professor said.
One of the male aides did a couple of hand gestures. The six silver-masked people stopped pacing and turned to face Reader with their weapons at the ready in both hands.
The ginger-blonde named Erissa stepped up before Reader, looking nervous as heck. Then she spoke.
“Guwwuuuu, muwuu nuuuu eooooo aaaa…”
Oh shit, Reader thought as he tore his eyes away from the busty twins that looked uncomfortably restrained within the girl’s tight white blouse, I should probably focus on what she’s saying.
“Sorry, what was that?” Reader asked.
A chorus of gasps and nervous chatter swept through the spectating crowd.
“Did her champion just speak in human tongue?” Reader heard someone ask among the crowd.
Oh fuck-nuggets, was I not supposed to? Reader thought to himself.
Erissa, now looking at Reader in awe, gently asked “You can understand me?”
Reader struggled to decide on how to proceed. Apparently summons don’t usually speak right off the bat in this world. What do they say then? Argh, I’m in an anime world aren’t I? Try to remember the stuff that Daphne’s loser otaku son always watches, there’s gotta be a clue in there somewhere!
“Errrr…” Reader mumbled, “Pika… Pikaa?”
The following silence was deafening, punctuated only by the whistle of a lonely westerly wind blowing through the courtyard.
Erissa looked at a loss for a moment. Then she smiled warmly at Reader and said, “Hehe. Is that how you say hello? Pika-pikaa to you too!”
Holy shit, she’s so fucking cute, Reader thought. Also, fuck you Daphne’s son! That shit was cringe as fuck!
Eriss continued with a flustered but enthusiastic bow towards Reader, “Erm, if you don’t mind, O great champion. I-if you find me worthy of the blood of heroes that flows in my veins, I humbly request that you allow me the honor of being your Lady and grant me thy service as my champion.”
“Uhuh, yeah, sureeee….” Reader replied without really listening. His attention was once again hijacked by the delightful luscious and soft looking orbs wrapped under the front of Erissa’s blouse. “Wait, what did you say?” Reader asked as he snapped back to reality.
“Professor! He said yes!” Erissa turned around and gushed to the other lovely woman.
“Excellent!” The professor replied, clasping her hands together. “The contract is sealed.”
The summoning circle around them started to glow brightly and Reader felt a slight tingle on the back of his right hand. He raised his arm to take a look and found that an ornate rune had been etched to the back of his hand.
Being in possession of Maerlin’s Wisdom, Reader instantly knew what the rune meant.
“Oh fuck!” Reader said.
“You’re such a dumbass. Seriously…” the Goddess’s voice echoed in Reader’s head.
Is Reader a dumbass?
