Who are your first guests?

My Sister and Her Girlfriend (Serum Two)

One Year Before AP

“Jesus Adam, you have so many guys back there working on your project. What are you building back there?”

My sister Cass was at my house. She let herself in while I was watching some TV. I was lying on my coach sideways with my hand on my side of my face in the main house’s living room watching TV.

“A shelter for the apocalypse,” I said blankly still staring at the screen.

“Jeez, you are really buying into those conspiracy theories about that flu thing being some kind of major zombie apocalypse, huh?” My sister said, amused.

“Why are you here?” I asked not bothering to turn my head away from the TV.

“Look, I have some news that I think is important. I already told Mom and Dad, so I’m going to tell you…” I still stared off into the screen. “I’m a lesbian. Khloe and I are both lesbians. We are seeing each other.”

“You’re lesbians?” I said and rolled my eyes.

“Yes, Khloe and I are going out with each other. I talked with Mom and Dad about it. They took it with a lot more care and grace than you did Adam. Why are you the caveman of our family?”

“Look, I don’t care if you are lesbians, but you aren’t a lesbian, and neither is Khloe. You’ve been friends forever, and both of you guys dated many boys. I mean both you guys brought home so many guys when our parents weren’t home, and I’m sure you weren’t doing lesbian things. In fact, it sounded like you were taking meat sticks up-“ I was interrupted.

“People can change. I just discovered my sexuality,” Cass said defiantly.

“Discover? I thought people were born gay? You discovered you were a lesbian just now?”

“Adam, you are such a bigot. Men like you are why the world is the way it is.”

“There you go, always with your men bashing,” I replied.

“Well, I don’t care if you believe I’m a lesbian or not, I am. We really like each other, and I want you to accept me for who I am.”

“Okay sure,” I said and went back to watching my TV.

She looked at me with disgust and stormed off.

Day 1 of AP

My intercom buzzed. I was in my control room, monitoring the situation that was unfolding on several TV monitors with new stations playing. It was the beginning of the big breakout in our city. A major hospital had just poured out with hundreds of the dead. Hundreds became thousands as downtown became overrun and spread outward. Highways became clogged. My sister was in her car with her girlfriend, and she drove towards the suburbs and gated community where my house and my fallout shelter was while the rest of the cars went the other way to the interstate to find themselves jammed.

I looked on the monitor and two women were standing there. The two familiar women had two of their bags and kept looking back nervously. One had really short brown hair, was my sister Cassidy Smith. A few years younger than me and a freshman in college. The other was her girlfriend, Khloe Lang. Khloe had a septum ring and a side buzz cut with long blonde hair and some tattoos.

Not wanting to keep them waiting, I went to the door, entered the biometrics and password, and the heavy steel door slid open.

“Yo,” Cass said and went in walking past me and lugging her bags.

“Hey Adam,” Khloe said and went in walking past me and lugging her bags down the corridors.

“Hello. Good to see you both, too.” I said with a slight frown.

They both made themselves at home and tried to open the doors to my rooms.

“Adam, where can we put these bags?”

I sighed and locked the front door behind them. The steel door slid back into place and opened the doors to the residents’ dorms to show them to the room I assigned for them.

“What’s the WIFI password?” Cassidy said as she sprawled on the bed and took the laptop there. A had placed a laptop in each room.

“Adam is king. One word. No, capitals.” I said with a smile.

Cassidy rolled her eyes. “This bed is awfully small for the two of us. We need a bigger bed, Adam. We will be sleeping together on here.”

Cass and Khloe were both hunched over the laptop looking desperately on it, looking like they were searching for Waldo.

“The beds are how they are. I can’t exactly go to Ikea now, can I?” I said.

“How big is your bed?” Cassidy said, still looking at her screen.

“My bed is big because this is my place.”

“Oh, that’s so typical for you misogynist fascists,” Cass said.

I tried my best to hold my tongue. “So how about I get you guys some water?”

“Do you have any Fiji?” Khloe said, still staring at the laptop.

“Yeah, get me a LaCroix please and thank you,” Cass added in.

“Yeah sorry, I only have tap water,” I said. Although I didn’t mention the extra additives of the girlfriend serum.

“Oh, god, Adam, this place is going to be a nightmare. Can’t you go out and search for something real for us to drink?” She looked at me, pleadingly.

It surprised me that her only concern was the water and not the status of her friends or our parents (no response yet).

I walked away. Despite all that Cassidy and Khloe drank the water I offered them.
