Moving on to bigger things

The flight home is subdued. Carmine has immediately organized a flight back to the island after the agent tried to arrest you. You’d killed him. You’ve gone past the point of no return now. You knew it was coming eventually, you’ve been doing your own fair share of evil things recently. Carmine doesn’t seem to care. You’re sure that Leah and Chun Wei have killed many more people in many more ways.

“Who was that?”

Carmine crosses her legs, “Probably an intelligence officer from the states, judging from the accent. They like to stick their noses into my business every so often, but with a dead man on the floor of a hotel, shot with his own gun – they’re going to have to go to ground in India now. The government will be furious with them.”

“Will they even know who it is?”

“They will once they try to get his body back. When you get pushed out into the open you can’t go back into hiding. There’ll be a lot of awkward explanations at the American embassy I’m sure.”

“No chance for sightseeing.”

Carmine’s gaze is withering, “Are you okay baby? I should have asked if you were comfortable with doing that.”

“…It’s fine – I mean, all of the things I’ve done so far are pretty horrible too. At the end of the day I’m probably going to hell either way.”

“Not if we turn this world into heaven first.”

Leah walks into the cabin and takes a seat next to you, “Fucking spies. We ever going to get some rest and relaxation?”

“Your idea of relaxation is jumping on me and having intense sex.”

“Yeah? That’s relaxing.”

“Maybe for you, I don’t even think Carmine’s modifications can help me deal with you.”

You chatter with Leah and Carmine until the plane lands back on the island. You hop out onto the same runway and walk through the town, “Well at least somebody won’t try to shoot me over here.” Into the elevator and down into the base.

The man at the front desk looks shocked to see Carmine again, “Miss Carmine? Back so soon?”

“Unfortunately, it seems that trouble followed us. We had to cut our trip short.”

The man nods and opens the steel door, allowing you to re-enter the base. It was nice while it lasted. Back to living in this underground bunker like an underground cave troll. Carmine rarely bothers to actually use to incredibly fancy manor slash hotel that has been constructed on top of the island – it’s a pretty long trip and her room downstairs is good enough for her.

Carmine drags you down to the planning area, “It’s no matter to me. We got what we wanted. A worm in his business and the chance to kickstart our operations in Asia. Our people are already working on covering up what happened.”

“Sometimes I forget you’ve been doing this for years.”

“We’ve only began working in earnest in the past year. Establishing this hideout, hiring men and women to staff the place, finding the inner-circle.”

“By inner circle, you mean me and Leah?”

“And Chun. All of Bloody Nose’s recommendation.”

“Why do you trust her so much? I swear she’s the one really calling the shots.”

Carmine shrugs, “I know who she is and that’s all I’ll say – the answer will become obvious eventually and she’ll tell you herself. For now, it’s important that her identity remains a secret. If you’re my right hand, she’s the left.”

“Alright, I’ll let her off then. What are we going to do now?”

“I already have our next objective lined up, one that needs a personal touch from us,” Carmine pulls down a photograph of an attractive ginger woman in a leather jacket and sunglasses, “This is Amy McMichael.”

“Okay, and who is she exactly?”

“I don’t know. That’s what I want to know. She’s been loitering with various intelligence officers we’ve had a hand in influencing, so she’s associated with them. The reason it worries me is because it’s a cross-departmental issue. She’s been meeting with American, British, European, and Russian intelligence agencies for weeks. If they’re putting together an agreement it could spell disaster for us.”

“So you want to brainwash the info out of her?”

“I’m afraid it won’t be that easy. She’s keeping out of our reach, and I don’t want to compromise any of our sleeper agents just yet. Right now she’s in Russia, and they’ve been very aggressive about stopping us in the past. Any attempt to smuggle our chemical warfare solution into their country through a private terminal will not work.”

“The benefits of being in charge with no opposition.”

“They practically invented espionage; it was well within our expectations. The Russian don’t know about you though. I want you, Leah and Chun Wei to capture this woman – while keeping your identities secret and find out who she’s working for.”

“You’re not coming?”

“Sorry baby, my face is too striking. They remember me. Until the heat wears off, I have to stay away from Russia.”

“If you think I can handle it.”

“I know you can handle it. India was a test run. Leah has taught you everything you need to know, it’s time for you to fly the nest baby.”

“When do we go?”

“Three days, take some time to learn the plan inside out, Leah should have memorized it by now. Go talk with her and get ready.”
