Chapter 29 by gemmaxoxo gemmaxoxo

What's next?

Move on with your life.

Over the next few months, you enter a deep funk, feeling Gemma's absence. You occasionally see her when her father organizes events, and although you keenly feel the awkwardness she does very well to act as if everything is normal. So well in fact that you wonder to yourself whether or not she's completely gotten over you. Not that you have any say in whether or not she has - after all, it was ultimately your decision that led to the breakup of your relationship. You decide to throw yourself into your work, spending long hours at the office, securing a successful promotion and raise on top of your already well-remunerated salary. Things appear to be going well in your life, despite the inner ache you feel, and the absence of the delirious physical heights you reached when you were with Gemma.

You realize after some time that you'll never return to that place - and decide to move on, instead treasuring that time with Gemma as a fond moment in your life. After all, you don't regret any decision you made - firstly to cheat on your wife, but secondly to ultimately stay with her. Even if your sex life has become dull and boring, it's still not the most important thing in the world. You have a gorgeous wife that you love and plan to be with for the rest of your life, and as time passes further you chastise yourself for endangering your marriage with such a dangerous fling. If anything, the affair has led you to appreciate Rebecca even more, and you realize that the many months of distracting yourself with your work have also led you to neglect her somewhat.

You decide to surprise Rebecca by coming home from work early one day and taking her out for an evening where you can spoil her rotten. It's your wedding anniversary in a couple of weeks, and whilst something would obviously be planned for that date, she won't see this coming. You pack up your things at about three in the afternoon and drive home with a smile on your face, picking up a bouquet of roses from the florist around the corner from your house, satisfied that you've now reached a place of contentment in your life.
