Chapter 47

Move Out
Steven scanned the bounty board, itching to test his new gear and snag some quick wins. He picked four solo quests: Crab Cull (E), Bandit Scout (E), Goblin Patrol (D), and Cave Bear Clash (D)—a mix of easy and worthy challenges. With daylight still burning, he set out into the Mistveil’s fog.
Quest 4: Crab Cull (E-Rank)
First, the shore—twenty giant shore crabs harassing fishermen, each a hulking three feet wide with snapping claws. Steven dove in, igniting Fists of Holy Fury, golden flames licking his gloves. He punched the first—splat—its shell cracked, dropping 3 chunks of Crab Meat. Another swiped; he dodged and stomped its head—2 more meat. He tore through them, fists and kicks a blur, each kill spilling loot: 5 crabs dropped 1 meat, 10 dropped 2, 5 dropped 3. By the end, he’d gathered 40 Giant Crab Meat, pocketing them with a grin. “Dinner and coin,” he muttered, heading back.
Quest 6: Bandit Scout (E-Rank)
Next, the forest edge—Bandit Scout, a tracking job. Steven crouched low, spotting five bandits in ragged leathers, swords glinting. He stayed hidden, shadowing them through brush and sand as they moved north along the shore, far from town. They stopped at a cave, its entrance sealed with a crude wooden door, a lookout posted. He memorized their knock—two quick taps, a pause, one slow—and slipped away, mission logged, no fight needed.
Quest 8: Goblin Patrol (D-Rank)
The trade road called—Goblin Patrol, 10 goblins prowling. Steven tracked them down, their green hides and jagged spears no match for his cave-sharpened edge. He sparked Fists of Holy Fury, charging in—first goblin took a punch to the jaw, skull caving—crunch. Two lunged; he sidestepped, smashing their chests, ribs snapping. A spear thrust—he batted it aside, crushing a throat with a flaming fist. Ten fell fast—no need for full power, just golden precision. They dropped 10 Goblin Ears; he grabbed them, leaving the junk necklaces behind.
Quest 11: Cave Bear Clash (D-Rank)
Last, inland to the mountains—Cave Bear Clash, a brute to test his mettle. The cave yawned in a rocky hillside, and there it loomed: an eight-foot brown bear, claws like daggers. Steven skipped full Saiyan Fury, igniting just Fists and Feet of Holy Fury. He darted in, punching its flank—fur singed, flesh bruised—but it roared, swiping. Claws raked his legs and arms, shallow cuts stinging. He ducked another swipe, hammering its ribs—crack. It lunged, jaws wide; he grappled it, locking arms around its bulk. “Time to flip this,” he growled, flaring Saiyan Fury—golden flames surged, strength spiking. He squeezed, bones snapping in a lethal hug—its final bellow cut short as it slumped dead. “Ultimate reversal,” he chuckled, picturing a bear crushing some poor sod turned on its head.
Loot dropped—Cave Bear Pelt and Bear Claws—but the cave beckoned. He sparked his golden night vision, eyes glowing, and stepped inside. The tunnel stretched, damp and cool, walls flecked with quartz. Deeper in, he spotted Glowcap Mushrooms, fist-sized and pulsing faint blue, lining a crevice. Nearby, a skeleton slumped in rusted chainmail, a Rusty Dagger clutched in bony fingers—no threats, just quiet loot in the gloom.
