Morning Sickness

Rebecca opened the door with a smile that stretched from ear to ear.

It started this morning. When she woke up, she felt so fatigued, despite having slept for 8 hours. When she arrived at the office, she began to feel a headache, and her breasts felt sensitive and sore. Checking the calendar, she found that she had missed her period for two weeks.

Could it be...

She ran out to the pharmacy and bought a pregnancy test. As expected, the result was positive. After a minute of being overjoyed, she called the HR department to request a day off, then ran to the street and caught the first taxi she met to go home. She wanted her husband to be the first to know.

"Sweetheart, I have some good news..."

She stopped. The house was too quiet.

She ran around the house, shouting your name in vain. Police arrived and recorded another missing person case.

Homelander bent over the toilet, flushing away everything she had just eaten for breakfast.

Yesterday, she just felt unwell, but this morning, the queasy feeling in her stomach turned into full vomiting. She gripped the edge of the toilet, desperate not to throw up again.

She tried to convince herself that whatever’s wrong with her stomach wasn’t that bad, and she would get better. Maybe her food hadn't been washed properly. Maybe the smell of garbage became more than a little repugnant in the summer heat. She would burn her chef and the landfill the next day.

By the fourth day, she had to leave a bucket by her bed before going to sleep. The first thing she did when waking up was to grab the bucket and empty her stomach into it, then wipe her mouth and move away from the puked-in pail before the smell could set her off again.

After one week, Homelander had no choice but to tell Madelyn, who instantly recognized the symptoms. The Vice President of Hero Management was shocked by the lack of understanding of biology. After all the confident declarations about having a baby, the superhero didn't even know about morning sickness!

Madelyn sighed, lifting her phone and calling the doctors. Homelander could laser anyone when she was embarrassed, so explaining the situation to her was a fatal risk that Madelyn didn't want to take.
