More pretending

Pammy stares at you, waiting for you to respond to her account of what happened in the incident with James Danker. According to her, Danker is a bully and a party animal, a bad combination for any girl at a college party to encounter, and he had tried to coerce 1 of Pammy's friends into having sex with him. Luckily for her, there were people around when she protested and wrestled away from him, running to Pammy for help. The girls had then left the party, although Pammy later returned after seeing her friend back to the dorms and a quick visit to the library for the ice spell. She had only intended to embarrass Danker in front of everyone, but having never tried the spell before and not knowing how powerful it was, she had caused the pool to freeze to such a hardness that crowbars found it hard to make a dent. And so, when Danker jumped off a diving board into the pool, he fractured his neck and spine in several places, and currently lies in a hospital bed somewhere. Doctors said he'll eventually make a full recovery, but he wasn't going to be moving in a while.

"It was an accident..." Pammy says after a while of your silence, unable to take the suspense. You believe her, but that's not what's on your mind at the moment. She had asked about a "Bureau," which you have so many questions about.

"What are you going to tell the Bureau? They're not going to... are they?" Pammy asks.

"I haven't decided," you say, breaking your silence finally. "I want to believe your side of the story, but you did cause a lot of harm to someone with magic. You know that's... not good."

"Please, my aunt used to work for the Bureau a long time ago. Let me talk to her, and maybe she can talk to someone else. Your contact at the Bureau, perhaps?"

You try not to act surprised when you hear that Pammy's aunt used to work for this Bureau. As far as you knew, Pam Waters had always been a librarian, and it was unlikely that she had held another official job. Whatever this Bureau was, you suspect it's something secretive, not like the FBI. You look around, noticing that the sun has set and it's very dark all around the gazebo. You can barely see the outline of campus buildings beyond the trees.

"I'll need more time to gather my thoughts before I come to a conclusion for the Bureau," you say.

"...I understand. I'm willing to cooperate. I can show you the spell again, if you'd like. I still remember it. You can see that I meant no harm," Pammy offers.

"Sure, that might help actually. Shall we go back to the pool?"

"Yup, it's not far. I'm sure it's not in use after they thawed it out, but we should be discreet."

"Let's go then."
