Chapter 28
by Mythen Oakhier
Well not so much a dragon...
More of a Dragongirl
The dragongirl stood before the group at the edge of the roof, watching as the gathered minions worked to destroy those that may or may not have had a hand with her condition. A condition that was apparent by what appeared to be artifacting and digital corruption that surrounded her as well as appearing on certain areas of her body.
Before John could use Observe on the dragongirl, the two ladies that looked to have planes built around them buzzed by the entrances, their noise alerting the person that John’s group had appeared behind her. She turned to face his group, and as she did so, she swept out her arm and wing.
In an instant, John could feel the pressure of the barrier change. He could also hear the change, with the sounds of all battle stopping in an instant. But not just the battle, it was as if all other sounds disappeared from the barrier with the exception of the two plane girls flying about over the group’s collective head.
The dragongirl brought her wing and arm back to her side before they shot out again. John felt a great pressure pushing him back at the gesture, and he grit his teeth as he raised his arms in defense, trying to hold against the expected attack.
But the attack wasn’t aimed at him. John turned to look at Rowena or Moonstone and ask them a question, only to see that they had vanished. Just like the catgirl nurse that had been accompanying them, leaving John all alone on the rooftop facing three clearly more powerful adversaries.
“He is the one you wanted?” asked the Luftwaffe woman as her ‘plane’ came to a harsh landing on the rooftop between John and the mysterious dragongirl. “He certainly doesn’t look like a mage of any kind of power.”
“Axis, that is enough,” called the other woman as she landed next to the other. “It is not our place to ask why we were summoned here,” she chastised the Luftwaffe woman as she turned to the dragongirl. “We have done as you asked. We are free to leave now, yes?” she asked, sounding slightly unsure of herself.
When the dragongirl nodded her head, Axis revved her engine back to life. “Next time, Ally, we will be back to fighting to see which is the better aerial ace,” Axis called over the roar of her engines before she took off into the sky.
Ally just shook her head, before glancing at John apologetically before she followed Axis into the air. Soon both of them had disappeared from sight.
’Well,’ John thought to himself, ’at least it is one on one now. Not sure how that is going to do me any good.’ John stepped out of the door way and on to the roof fully. The dragongirl made no other movements while John stepped from the doorway, as if she was waiting for him.
Once John had stopped moving the dragongirl finally spoke. "҉S͘o̸ ͠y̕ou a̵r҉e the̵ ͘ǫne ţh͜a̴t̢ c̛a̴us͘e̡d t҉his,̶" she said in a tone that nearly hurt John’s ears to listen to. "I̧ can̷ s̸m͞ell t͞h͡e͏ ma҉g͢ic̨ ̸on ҉yo̸u̶, ̧but ͠not̀ the co̡rru̸ṕt̸i̶on.͘ ҉W͠h̢y̷ ͞diḑ ̨y͟o̷u ͠do t̛his҉ t͏o̢ m̕e?" she demanded.
John shook his head. “This is the first time I have met you,” he replied, hoping that she wasn’t in the Fae Hill Barrier when he had corrupted his skill.
"͢I͝ ͝was ̛a ̴sma͢ll͢ d́r̨agon ͏s͞le̷e͠pin͟g̡ ̀iń ̨ą ̢m͝o͢u͝n̕d͏ ̕of èn̡c̷h͟a͞nt͟e̸d soil.͏ I̢ s̀h͡ould ͢h̢a̴v͘ȩ ̕b̸e̷ȩn͝ a͠s̷lee̡p ̢for̕ ̛a̧nơt͏h͢er c͝en͟t͠u͡r͞y,͝" she stated plainly, a hostile edge creeping into her voice as John watched her begin to bristle. "͟Whe҉n I̶ ̷aw̛oke,̡ I ̸wa͏s ̷li̡k̀e thi҉s. Ì s͠h́ou͠ld͢ ̛ha͏v̸e͜ ̶b̡eén͠ mag͠ńif͡ic̡ent, ͠g̵lo͠ri̶ou̸s,̸ ́ęv̛en҉ ̷awe ̢ínşpir̢in͡g. ̴A͟ ̴s̀y͜m̸bol of́ ̛h͡o͏p̡e͜ ̕for̸ ͡the҉ dȩniz̴e͡ns̡ ̧of́ the̷ Abys̢s͡.̛ Now҉ a̧l̨l I͡ d͏o̧ is iņs̷p͠ire ̴fea͝r. An̢d it ͠i͞s҉ ́all ̕yo̶u̡r̸ f̡a͟ult͡!͟"͞ With those last shouted words, she leapt forward, her claws extended and reaching for John’s throat.
“Do you really think this is the time for that Gaia,” John mumbled as he followed his instincts and let his Dodge skill guide him away from the lethal looking claws, causing the dragongirl to crash into the wall behind him. “Look, I am very sorry about that,” John pleaded as he watched her climb back to feet. “What can I do to fix this?”
"Ýo͠ư real̷ĺy͜ wa͜n҉t̴ ͡t͟o ͝fi͞x̀ this?" she asked as she paused for a minute, thinking. "̀You͝ ͡ca̷ǹ ̡fix ́th͞is by dyin̴g̀!"̢ she yelled before breathing a purple fire that seemed laced with visible manifestations of the corruption that he had caused.
John did his best to dodge the fire blast that the overly distraught girl was breathing at him, but his best wasn’t quite good enough as part of the patient gown that he was wearing caught fire. John quickly stripped the clothing from his body, leaving him in a pair of pants, for which he thanked whoever dressed him in his head, and a pair of slippers.
Another blast followed the first, then a third. Each time he dodged, by the skin of his teeth, but dodge them he did. John mentally whispered a small prayer to Gaia for his raised agility that was aiding his skill, but he could tell it wouldn’t be enough to stay away forever, let alone win this fight. Just as he had that thought, he felt the skin of his leg begin to blister as the intense heat of another fire blast caused his pants to catch fire. Once more, John stripped out of his pants. And thus, he was naked before the girl. Thankfully, this wasn’t the embarrassment that it used to be, thanks in part to the application of stat points, as well as the growth to his dick.
In desperation, John charged a small Mana Attack in his hands and threw it at the dragongirl. As she swatted it aside to block it the attack exploded, blinding her for a moment but otherwise dealing no damage. John used the distraction and ran forward, wrapping his arms around the dragongirl in an attempt to stop her from attacking.
The dragongirl was stunned by this action, thinking that John was just another cowardly mage who would try and run away, that for a moment she didn’t struggle against his grip. “I just want to help and fix you,” John said, pleading with the infuriated dragongirl, and tried to pour his mana into her through his hand to cleanse her body of the corruption. A rather nice body, now that he thought about it.
Purify
Purifies an Abyssal creature. This purification causes them to become a permanent, living creature of a new (similar) species, sets their alignment to zero, and sets their relationship to a value equal to "50 - (True Value of previous alignment)". To purify a creature, its missing health % must be equal to or greater than the true value of its alignment. Magically bonded creatures must be purified together, adding their levels, current / maximum HPs, and the true value of their alignment scores for the purposes of this ability. The creatures created are non-hostile but not necessarily loyal to the user, and may attack again if provoked. Mana Cost: 10 x Level of creature being Purified
What will happen?
