Chapter 3

Is Moira successful?
Moira plies up the hidden compartment
Moira's fingernail easily pulled up the back side of the idol. With a clank, the small piece that had previously been attached, fell away. Moira now stood looking into the back of the statue.
"Now is that anyway for a professional researcher to act," shouted Tom as he reached for the piece that had fallen away. "You could really botch this up if you're not careful."
"I know, Tom, but I just needed to do something," she explained as she set the idol down on a table and began looking at it with a growing fascination. "If I just sit here waiting for another man to make up his mind that we can turn it a fraction of an inch to the right, I'm going to scream."
"Fine," he was exasperated now, "you do what you have to do and I'll finish what I started." Tom picked up his clipboard and walked over to her. "Do you mind if I see the front of the statue so I can finish my sketches?"
Moria just looked up at him. She sighed, straightened herself and reached into the newly formed crevice to turn it toward Tom. The second her hand grasped the inside of the Idol, however, both of them heard a slight click. In a fraction of a second, Moira felt an incredible energy, warm and comforting, sweep through her whole body.
What Tom saw was a flash of light and after he picked himself up from the blast, what he saw was the the idol on the ground, and no sign of Moira.
