The Next day, How do things turn out?
Mixed to be sure.
Revealing Our Identity: Courage and Consequences- rough draft v2
Jasmine and Natalie awoke to the sound of their alarm, the first rays of sunlight filtering through the bedroom curtains. Both of them lay there for a few moments, still cocooned in the warmth of each other's arms, **** to face the day ahead. But they knew they couldn't put off the inevitable confrontation with Luraine any longer.
As they slowly disentangled themselves from one another, Jasmine got out of bed first, her legs feeling a little unsteady. She could sense the heaviness in the air, the mixture of determination and apprehension palpable between them. Natalie followed suit, rubbing the sleep from her eyes and casting a glance at Jasmine, offering a small, encouraging smile.
They moved through their morning routine with a quiet efficiency, each lost in their thoughts about the upcoming confrontation. Jasmine stood in front of the mirror, carefully applying her makeup. Her hands trembled slightly, but she focused on the task at hand, refusing to let her nerves get the better of her. Natalie, meanwhile, selected their outfits for the day, picking clothes that reflected their feminine identities while still being practical for the gym.
As they dressed, they couldn't help but steal glances at each other, seeking reassurance in the other's presence. Jasmine adjusted the straps of her sports bra, pulling on a pair of leggings that clung to her curves. Natalie chose a more relaxed outfit, donning a loose-fitting tank top and a pair of shorts that showed off her toned legs.
Once they were dressed, Jasmine tied her hair back in a high ponytail, while Natalie opted for a simple braid. They stood side by side in front of the mirror, examining their reflections. Despite their apprehension, they couldn't help but feel a spark of pride at how far they had come.
Finally, they grabbed their bags and prepared to leave the apartment. As they reached the front door, Jasmine paused, her hand hovering over the doorknob. She took a deep breath, steeling herself for the challenges that lay ahead.
Natalie placed a reassuring hand on Jasmine's shoulder, giving it a gentle squeeze. "We can do this," she whispered, her voice filled with determination.
Jasmine nodded, her resolve solidifying. She grasped the doorknob and turned it, stepping out into the day with Natalie by her side, ready to face whatever awaited them.
As Jasmine and Natalie entered the gym, they spotted Luraine at the reception desk, chatting with a staff member. Jasmine's heart raced, and she hesitated for a moment, but Natalie's presence by her side gave her the courage she needed. The couple approached the desk, and Luraine looked up, her eyes widening in surprise as she took in Jasmine's transformation.
"Jer? Is that you?" Luraine asked, disbelief etched on her face.
Jasmine nodded, her voice barely above a whisper. "Yes, it's me, Luraine. But I go by Jasmine now."
Luraine's eyes flicked to Natalie, who stood protectively beside Jasmine, her expression one of indignation. "And who might you be?" Luraine inquired, her tone neutral.
"I'm Natalie, Jasmine's girlfriend," she replied firmly, her voice brimming with confidence.
Luraine looked back at Jasmine, her expression softening slightly. "I see. Well, Jasmine, I must admit I wasn't expecting to see you like this today, especially after yesterday's incident."
Natalie couldn't hold back any longer. "That's what we're here to talk to you about, Luraine." she started with an almost growl. "You overreacted yesterday. Jasmine's feminine touches were barely noticeable, and it's not like they were causing any harm. You shouldn't have taken her clothes and left her with something so…so…"
"cute? Flattering?" Luraine finished for her trying to lighten the mood and instead getting a glare from Natalie stilling all talk from either person.
"Embarrassing." Jasmine interjected softly, her cheeks flushing a deep shade of red.
"Yes, exactly!" Natalie agreed, her eyes flashing with anger. "You had no right to treat her like that, to **** her into such an uncomfortable situation. You made her confront something about herself before she was ready, something WE that we had been working through, Those Feminine things I sent her to work with were to help her remember who she could be, her goal, why she was trying so HARD, to not give UP, and most importantly to remind her I loved her and would support her no matter what!" Natalie finished in a huff.
Luraine held up her hands in a placating gesture. "I understand how you feel, Natalie, but you need to understand my perspective too. I thought Jasmine was playing around at work, without even hiding it well, and I wanted to make a point about professionalism. I never expected her to actually wear the clothes I left out. I expected you to call out or ring my phone, not come running out of that room, dressed very adorably I might add, Like the devil himself was right behind you."
Jasmine looked down, her voice barely audible. "Well, I did. And now I'm here, like this, because of yesterday, Its sooner than I thought it would happen, if it ever was," she trails of into a whisper, before gathering herself and starts again, this time voice building and head rising to meet Luraine's eyes for the first time since this conversation fully started, "and there are a lot of things I wanted to have done before this moment but I've decided to live full-time as Jasmine. I need your support, Luraine."
As Jasmine finished speaking, a brief silence fell over the three women. Luraine's expression shifted, her eyes searching Jasmine's face, as if trying to gauge the depth of her conviction.
Luraine took a deep breath and exhaled slowly. "I'm sorry, Jasmine. I never meant to cause you any distress or **** you into a situation you weren't ready for. I truly thought it was just playful fun between you and Natalie that had gotten out of hand. I should have handled it differently."
Natalie's expression softened a bit, her arms uncrossing as she took a step closer to Jasmine, but a glare still on her face. "Thank you for apologizing, Luraine. We appreciate that. But what happens now? How do we move forward from here?"
Luraine paused for a moment, considering her response. "Well, first, I want to make it clear that I fully support you, Jasmine. And I apologize if my actions made you feel otherwise."
She turned to Natalie and continued, "I understand that you were only trying to help Jasmine, I would normally not think so well of someone that talked at me like that on first meeting, but your heart was is the right place and I was in the wrong, I defiantly know Jasmine is in good hands if you can hold even me to account for her sake. I hope you know that my intentions were never malicious. I'm so sorry I miss read the situation so badly."
Natalie nodded, glare softening as she acknowledged Luraine's words. "I understand, Luraine. I just want to make sure Jasmine is treated fairly."
Luraine smiled, reaching out to place a hand on Jasmine's shoulder. "I promise to do my best to make that happen. And to show my support, I have some extra gym-appropriate clothes for women that I think will fit you, Jasmine. I'd be happy to give them to you so you don't have to worry about finding new clothes right away."
Jasmine's eyes filled with gratitude as she looked at Luraine. "Thank you, Luraine. That means a lot to me."
With the tension dissipating, the three women shared a moment of understanding. Luraine's support would be invaluable to set Jasmine up for her work week, and Natalie couldn't help but feel relieved that they had one less obstacle to face.
As Jasmine and Natalie left the gym, Luraine made a mental note to speak with the other staff members before Jasmine's next shift. She wanted to ensure that everyone was on the same page and that Jasmine would be treated with the respect she deserved.
As Jasmine and Natalie stepped out of the gym, they noticed Alex leaning against the wall nearby, his arms crossed over his chest. His expression was warm and understanding as he approached them.
"Hey, Jasmine, Natalie," he greeted them, a friendly smile playing on his lips. "I couldn't help but overhear some of your conversation with Luraine, Not easdropping The sound proofing just sucks and you know how sound carries when we're this slow. I just wanted to say that I'm here for you too, Jasmine."
Jasmine looked at him, Happy to hear it but unsure how to respond. before relying simply "Thank you, Alex. That means a lot."
Alex nodded, his smile growing more sincere. "You know, I always saw Jer as my younger brother, and now I see Jasmine as my younger sister. Nothing's changed between us, except maybe my protective instincts have kicked up a notch."
He continued, "I want to offer my help with anything you might need, from piercings to HRT and anything else you could think of. Normally, I'd charge for my services on top of the right favor, but for you, I'll get it done for just a favor, no cash."
Jasmine blinked in surprise, having heard from other workers that 'Alex could get anything but the cost will get you' not expecting such a generous offer from Alex. "I... I don't know what to say, Alex. I had no idea you cared so much."
Alex shrugged, his eyes shining with sincerity. "We've been friends since you started, Jasmine. And friends support each other, right? Just let me know if there's anything I can do to help, and I'll be there."
Natalie stepped closer to Jasmine, placing a comforting hand on her shoulder. "We really appreciate it, Alex. Thank you."
As Jasmine, Natalie, and Alex said their goodbyes and began to walk away from the gym, they heard the sound of hurried footsteps approaching from behind. Turning around, they saw one of Jasmine's coworkers, Mark, rushing toward them, his face contorted with anger.
"Wait a second, Jer!" Mark called out, using Jasmine's old name deliberately. "I can't believe what Luraine just told me. You can't be serious about this whole 'Jasmine' thing!"
Natalie bristled at the blatant disrespect, and Jasmine's face paled, her previous confidence momentarily wavering. Alex, however, stepped forward, positioning himself between Jasmine and the aggressive coworker.
"Listen, Mark, it's not your place to judge Jasmine's decisions," Alex said firmly, his voice laced with authority. "She's been brave enough to embrace who she truly is, and you should respect that."
Mark scoffed, his eyes narrowed. "I don't care what you think, Alex. This is ridiculous, and I'm not going to pretend otherwise."
Jasmine took a deep breath, mustering her courage as she stepped around Alex to face Mark directly. "Mark, I understand that this might be difficult for you to accept, but this is who I am. I'm Jasmine, not Jer. I'd appreciate it if you could try to respect that."
Natalie stood by her side, her arm protectively wrapped around Jasmine's waist. "We don't need your approval, Mark. Jasmine is being true to herself, and if you can't accept that, it's your loss."
Mark glared at them for a moment longer before finally turning away, muttering under his breath as he stormed back into the gym.
As the three friends continued on their way to the college, Jasmine couldn't help but feel disheartened by the encounter.
