The First..
..Mistake
Mia’s confidence grew with every step. Her movements became bolder, lighter — almost playful. She could feel the rhythm of the game, the silk swaying gently in her wake. “Maybe this isn’t so hard,” she thought, a small smile tugging at her lips as victory glittered in her mind.
But pride was a fragile thing.
The hem of her hoodie, still loose from the model’s earlier tug, brushed just faintly against a dangling strand. The silk clung instantly — a soft, whispering sound as if the web itself sighed in pleasure.
Mia froze.
From the far end of the hall, the model straightened, a slow grin curving across her lips. She raised her arm high, the empty basket catching a beam of light.
“The web has spoken,” she purred, voice rich with amusement. “The first offering is due.”
Her bare feet glided across the cracked floor as she approached, hand extended expectantly. “Don’t look so shocked, little one. Every thread hungers. It always takes what’s owed.”
Mia hesitated only a heartbeat before pulling the hoodie over her head, cheeks flushed as she handed it over. The model dropped it into the basket with theatrical grace, smiling as the fabric settled.
“The web takes its first prize,” she said, her tone low and ritualistic. “And it’s only just begun.”
