Miss Gallagher

Miss April Gallagher was unique at Saint Vincent University for several reasons. For one, she was one of the only women to teach at the university. Female teachers were extremely rare in this era, and Saint Vincent was no exception.

Another way she was unique at this campus was she was by far the youngest teacher there. At 25, she was not much older than many of the students. She looked young too. She was young and very thin and a youthful face. In fact she looked younger than many of the students.

This made gaining the respect and authority she needed to do her job quite difficult. The staff was no help in this, with even her fellow teachers treating her contemptuously. She'd expected some comradery from the few female teachers, but they were the harshest of all, seeming to view her as some trumped up child who didn't deserve her job.

This was the struggle this new teacher faced...
