Misadventures in Maera's Tower.

Maera Callous was an enchantress of some repute. She'd built a lofty tower beyond the outskirts of a decently sized town, and made herself notable for the fact she made a lot of enchantments, most of which were for... adventurous couples.

With such a large storage of enchanted and magical equipment, enterprising fools regularly tried to pry into her tower and attached dungeon for free loot. Wiser fools hired others to do it instead - or they used to. At this point, it's a case of townsfolk directing newbie adventurers up to her dungeon for a laugh.

The townsfolk got entertainment when the poor fools returned to town in need of a lot of dispelling, Maera got to test out some of her newer creations as well as entertainment of her own, and the dupes got a lot of training in a safe environment, as well as a bunch of loot that Maera was happy to give away as payment.

She needed to stock up every now and then, rewarding, re-summoning her "monsters", adding new items and even building onto her dungeon.

Maera was just done assembling her tenth floor, and she wiped a triumphant brow of sweat off her face. She had carved the one-way teleport ward that would be the "start" of the dungeon, and keyed it into her tower's front door.

Instead of stripping anyone who stepped through without being keyed in naked and teleporting them to the nearby town square on a pillory, it'd teleport them to the tenth floor of her dungeon, forcing them to fight their way up or simply wait for Maera to retrieve them.

She was already in her tower, working on her latest enchantments when a ghost-like monster arrived to tell her mistress that there was visitors coming.

"Paying customers or the fun kind?" Maera asked, turning to her magical scrying orb on a pedestal.

"The fun kind, mistress!" the ghost beamed.

"Really? New interlopers? Let's observe them."
