Chapter 41
by neo_kenka
"I wish you just spooned me."
Minions of the Hive
"Are you two ready?"
That it was literally less than two hours since he had left his home felt so absurd to John; instead of the morning rays of a slept-in Thursday, the darkness of the young night remained in his bedroom window. He felt chipper from the uninterrupted sleep, though was disappointed at the lack of any kind of Game benefit for it.
"Ready as ever, Master!" Fairy all but sung.
Alysha, now fully armored and armed, merely nodded that contemptuous expression of hers at her Master. While John was the consummate gentleman in bed (he merely gave her a few firm gropes as he woke, he thought), she still felt the sting of his humiliation... and the dread of what he planned. "I will ask again: do not shame me with a blooding committed with your human pity."
"You're never going back, so what worth is shame at this point, Alysha?"
The elf turned, her hands shaking as they rested on hilts. "What prey do you seek, then? You've said nothing of our hunt, save that you would have us attend it."
"Can it already, cum bucket," Fairy chimed in as she hovered overhead. "The Master can't control what shows up, so just be ready to kill anything... even your own kind," she added with a giggle.
"So subservient a not-familiar... perhaps your weakness has made you ever more his ****, but I shall always crave my ****."
Fairy opened her mouth to retort, but paused as she contemplated the odd truth of it, and then flew into John's face. "You're a Neanderthal's cum stain of a boy, as much a man as you are a feeble dog who's done having his day!"
John stared back, unimpressed. "You know what? She is a lot nicer lately, it's true," John mumbled as if ignoring Fairy, "so maybe my level does have something to do with it? I just hope my mother can eventually get some rest as a result."
"If these arbitrary numbers are truly the cause... and I've seen our levels..." Alysha drew her blades, whipped them forward to cleanly decapitate John... and found her body stopping just short, each gleaming sliver of Elven steel mere breaths from either side of his neck. Her expression remained cold throughout. "Hmpf."
"You came pretty close, for only one level above me," John muttered, never breaking his meditation. "Fairy, can you even manage a try? Were you ever able to?"
Fairy dithered and cancelled the mana bolt she was about to lob... at Aysha, in his immediate, reflexive defense. "Shut up..."
Smiling, John rose from where he squatted and headed for the false door, curious if he would end up jetlagged by the morning. "Once we're out of here, Fairy, remind me that you still need to get the flask away from my mother, and return it directly to me without opening it or using any more of its contents." It was tiresome giving her such complex orders, but he would make sure to not let her off the leash again in the future. The door opened to a new false reality, one presumably teeming with enemies. Indeed, he carefully peered around the doorway looking for them, up and down what was, this time, a version of his hallway so sharply curved that he couldn't see either end of it. The pictures on the wall were now stretched with this warping, ruining the backgrounds but leaving the portraits of his family mostly unaffected. He motioned his minions in before shutting the door, and only then spoke mentally.
<Alysha, it's night. That means you can turn invisible, right?>
She stared at him with unusual surprise. <How... do you know this?>
<I know everything you can do... just do it for me, will ya?>
She sighed audibly, and turned translucent, just barely visible to the naked eye.
Copycat activated!
Copycat: Invisibility lvl1, 25mp
Invisibility: bends light around your form, making you completely invisible. Invisibility is cancelled if one moves faster than a brisk walk, interacts with anything other than the floor, or speaks.
He got the skill... and what's more, it seemed to drop Alysha's restriction on night use. <Perfect.>
<Where the Hell did the elf cunt go?>
<She's still there... you can't see her?>
<See what, John Newman?>
<You.>
<Me?>
<No, her.>
<I see- who, the fae?>
<Damn it, this is->
"Fuck it," John hissed, "it's too confusing trying to talk that way with both of you. Alysha, I can still see you, but Fairy can't-" Shuffling. A noise like massive bodies moving, and John couldn't blink fast enough: the floor surged as a massive fist punched through it, crashing into his leg and bouncing him off of the ceiling.
-63hp
John just barely managed to get to his feet in time to see the attacking fist: nearly as large as his torso, its gnarled, pale fingers were long enough to crush his head like a grape if Gamer's body wouldn't prevent it. God help me if it doesn't. Alysha faced a similar attack, but one made blindly, chasing silent footsteps; she barely moved as wood and carpet flew up from the second groping hand, and her invisibility remained. John risked peering into the hole as the hand withdrew, and saw what he hadn't known was waiting for Vanessa when he had risked sending her down there.
Animated Ogre
<Animator Minion>
Level 8 Minion
550/550hp
Status Effects: Dead, Cumbersome, Fragile
A minion of an Animator; an ogre in life, it now serves its master simply.
The creatures were massive bulks of pale, cracking flesh, almost fat but too clearly covered in rippling muscles to be judged as anything but lethal. Their heads, like squat boulders held between shoulders, were each topped with a single massive horn, around which pus and some yellow, viscous fluid oozed. Too many tags, and too many groping fists still coming after him, to find out what he needed. He dropped into a crouching pose and stabbed his arm in a serpent's lunge, watching it briefly vanish from before him to blast into the back of the creature below.
153 damage
Fragile my ass! The creature lurched towards him underneath the floor, and John had the good sense to blink away this time, activating his displacer field upon landing. <You two going to help anytime soon?!>
<Shut your cock holster, Master!> Fairy kept herself floating high above them, tossing two mana bolts for a pathetic 20 damage. The second ogre, after being pelted as such, squatted... <Shit!> Fairy flew towards John just as the creature, mottled and gray and naked as the day he was birthed in the Abyss, used his incredible might to launch himself upwards and through the ceiling, further ruining the structure of the house.
The walls began to quake, and John didn't think the house could suffer this mistreatment for long given its already-warped shape. <Get outside before it comes down!> John had extended this version of the false reality to include his entire street, and so confidently blinked out of the collapsing home. The house, he discovered, had indeed been stretched and bent into a lazy letter 'C', though now the entire thing groaned and began to burst at structure points. Fairy flew out after him, and he watched as Alysha leapt, fully visible, from the hallway window that nearly faced the front lawn where they gathered. Finally, the house collapsed... and from the wreckage crawled the two tireless titans of rotting flesh and milky-white eyes. From small lacerations all over their bodies leaked a viscous yellow fluid, though neither seemed too affected by their wounds.

"Right, focus on the one on the left for now, and stay out of their range if you can!"
Fairy leapt into action, while Alysha just stared at him, dumbfounded. "What do you expect me to do?"
Acting quickly, he pulled the hunter's crossbow and its bolts out of his inventory and tossed them to her, which she caught in her forearms as she held her blades. "Use that." The creatures lumbered towards him, but their cumbersome trait became apparent; neither moved particularly fast when they weren't swinging at them.
"Such disgrace is-" Angrily, she sheathed her blades, juggling the awkward crossbow in her arms as she worked until it was in her masterful grip.

The ogres had barely crossed the street as the party made their retreating **** when the weakened one fell. The last strike was particularly strange: the auto-crit of the crossbow didn't activate, nor were any of his attacks critting, even when he was sending them behind the beast. Still, the creature fell... even as John and Alysha found their backs to the warped fence of the neighbor across the road. "Right, get in!" John opened a portal, one he had to duck into to use, and Alysha chased after him, both appearing behind the wreckage of his home at the other end of the false reality and staring as the ogre rushed the hole two sizes too small for him. "Back up and let him have it!" Another series of the same ****, and the simple-minded corpse could do naught but struggle to reach through the portal it couldn't know was just across the street behind him. At last the beast fell and, like its fellow, bubbled and melted into a mustard-like substance. The smell warranted closing the tunnel in disgust, though the remains of his outstretched arm continued to **** John's nose.
Enemy first wave defeated!
Rewards posted after final wave.
"That was..."
"Pretty intense, huh?" John grinned at Alysha, though the pop-up still worried him.
Alysha stared at him, a single eyebrow cocked. "Pathetic, was the word I would use. We were barely in any danger at all." John blinked at her. "Before we arrived you warned me that the challenges we would face would be worthy of my blades... but you handed me this contraption-" she grumbled while lifting the crossbow, "-and expect me to be blooded? Take this back from me, please... you have shamed me enough."
Irritated, John pocketed the crossbow and bolts once again, frustrated as Alysha pulled her blades. "Still, apparently they're just the first wave. I wonder what-"
"SSSSSSSSSSKKKKKKKKKREEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!"
The cry stunned them long enough that they could barely manage to back up as the debris of John's collapsed house split open to let out a gargantuan, serpent-like creature, its prismatic plates of chitin quivering as it hovered over them with its oppressive girth. John's eyes slowly traced it in horror, watching as the massive, hideous millipede-like insect wavered and trembled before finally falling to the side, letting its hundreds of legs lift it as if in preparation to walk out of the hole it just dug. It was almost too large for the false reality; it was too large for John's mind to fully accept right away. A single, massive needle dominated its pointed, helm-like exo-skull, and the wretched thing ejaculated the same golden material that bled from the ogres in a small pool between it and the Gamer. The puddle of its spittle bubbled onto the ground, and rising from it were two human forms, slick with the ooze and as glossy-eyed as the ogres. Though John couldn't recognize them, he knew well enough what "adds" looked like. Unlike the ogres, however, these two came rushing at Alysha with the full speed one might expect of human attackers.
Skittering Animator
Level 12 Elite
<?????????????????>
1,000/1,000hp
500/500mp
Status Effects: Armored
A gargantuan horror from the Abyss, who animates the dead without necromancy. A weak version of its bigger brothers in the Festering Hive, this beast can still manage to be a mighty threat to unwary parties.
Animated Human
Level 5
<Animator Minion>
200/200hp
Status Effects: Dead, Cumbersome, Greased (Animator Ichor)
A digested victim of the Skittering Animator, now bound to its innards until needed as a reformed, mindless combatant.
Alysha spun away from the grasping hands and biting faces of the ooze-covered slaves, and her blades found novel purchase in the uncaring flesh of the minions. The Animator, meanwhile, found its head tapped for a pathetic 10 damage by Fairy... but it was enough for it to turn its attention towards the sky where she hovered.
John had to help one of them, and fast.
