A Few Hours Later…
Michael Discovers He’s Got The Power
The next morning, the ring felt oddly natural on Michael’s finger. He had unknowingly fallen asleep with it still on and didn’t feel anything off. He headed to school with it still slipped onto his right index finger, half-expecting someone to comment on the sudden change in his style - which was usually no jewelry. Ever. Yet, as he walked through the crowded hallways of Oakridge High, passing teachers and classmates alike, no one even glanced at his hand. It was as if the ring was completely invisible.
During first period, he sat next to Lacey, one of his closest friends. Lacey was a sharp, upbeat girl who usually noticed the tiniest changes in his appearance, from a new haircut to a different brand of sneakers, and maybe a shining pink crystal lodged in the middle of a black ring. Deciding to test the waters, Michael leaned over and nudged her arm. "Hey, Lacey. Do you notice anything different today?"
Lacey glanced at him, blinking blankly. "Uh, no? Did you finally wash your hoodie?"
"No, look at my hand," Michael said. He reached down, his thumb naturally pressing against the crystal on the ring. "The ring is on my hand, see?"
The moment the stone clicked beneath his thumb, a faint, ethereal pink flash flickered across Lacey’s pupils. The vacant look in her eyes instantly vanished, replaced by an expression of absolute certainty.
"Oh, obviously," Lacey said, her tone completely casual, as if he had just stated that the sky was blue. "You've worn that ring literally every single day since freshman year. Why are you asking me about it now?"
Michael froze, his heart skipping a beat. "Wait... I've always worn it?"
"Duh," Lacey scoffed, turning back to her notebook. "It's literally your signature look. It’d be weirder if you didn't wear it."
Michael stared at his hand, a slow, exhilarating realization washing over him. The ring didn't just hypnotize people; it rewrote their fundamental understanding of reality. By pressing the stone and speaking, whatever he said instantly became an indisputable, deeply ingrained truth in the listener's mind. It altered their very definition of common sense.
As the teacher began lecturing, Michael's mind completely drifted away from the lesson. A thrill of pure excitement rushed through his veins. If he could make anything seem like common sense, the rigid social rules of high school no longer applied to him. The boundaries, the rejections, the hesitant dating games—all of it could be bypassed with a single touch of the ring.
He looked around the classroom, his eyes lingering on the popular girls, the cheerleaders, and the girls who usually wouldn't give an average guy like him a second glance. A dark, ambitious grin crept onto his face. With this kind of power, getting them into his bed wouldn't just be easy—to them, it would feel like the most obvious thing in the world.
