Chapter 3 by AltUAuthor AltUAuthor

Where and who are we following in this universe?

Metropolis: Welcome to the Daily Planet

"Morning, Kara. How was Smallville?" Lois Lane asked as she walked into the Planet bullpen, a stack of files in her arms.

"Hey, Lois. It was fine," Kara Kent glanced up from her computer. "It's always great to see Ma & Pa. And Clark's still getting better at not breaking things."

Lois smiled, leaning against her desk. "Good to hear. I've heard kids that age are capable of breaking everything they touch."

"Yeah... those kids have nothing on Clark," Kara said with a smirk. "He's a great kid, but he doesn't know his own strength."

When Kara was initially hired at the Daily Planet, Lois was skeptical. Kara was clumsy, introverted, and didn't seem really cut out to be a journalist; Lois, on the other hand, was relentless in the pursuit of truth. A "pitbull", as Perry described her. As a result, Lois had become very well respected in her short time working at Metropolis' biggest media outlet, and Kara's personality seemingly clashed with hers. Still, Lois was never one to dismiss someone without giving them a chance, so when Kara proved to be a very capable journalist in her own right, Lois was more than willing to admit she was wrong; since then, the pair had grown closer, forming a solid friendship alongside mutual friend and Lois' longtime journalism partner Jimmy Olsen.

"Sounds a lot like your dog," Lois observed.

Kara nodded. "No kidding. Krypto can cause all kinds of damage. Still, he's so good with people, and Clark adores him. That's why he's not here in Metropolis with me. So, what's up with you?"

"Work. So much work. I'm still working on that LexCorp story... there's something about the company that rubs me the wrong way. I'm also chasing down leads on this supposed 'Supergirl of Metropolis...'"

Kara rolled her eyes. "Riiiiight. Supergirl," she scoffed in a cynical voice. "I'm sure she totally exists and is real."

"Considering the growing number of people out there claiming they've seen her, there has to be something to the story," Lois countered. "Besides, it's not like there aren't people like her out there. Need I remind you of the Batman and Batwoman? Or Wonder Woman? Or Flash?"

"...Fair point," Kara conceded. "If you ask me, though the stories about this Supergirl sound pretty exaggerated."

"Considering how many of them there are, there's gotta be some truth in them," Lois pointed out. "Speaking of Wonder Woman, though, I've managed to score an interview with her."

Kara's eyes widened as she looked back up at Lois. "Seriously?! That's huge! How do you not lead with that?"

Lois chuckled. "I wanted to get the small talk out of the way, first... but yes, I've got a meeting with Wonder Woman herself. And, believe it or not, she was the one who reached out to me."

"Wow. I knew you had a knack for this, but now you've got Wonder Woman asking to meet with you." Kara paused, then smiled. "Are you a wizard or something? Maybe you're the Supergirl everyone's talking about."

"Please," Lois laughed. "If I could fly or shoot lasers out of my eyes, trust me, everyone around here would know it."

"Well, you've got some kind of superpower when it comes to talking to people," Kara said with a smirk.

"I guess I have spent a lot of time learning how to charm people," Lois replied with a chuckle. "Anyway, I've gotta go report to Perry. Coffee later?"

"Of course. Just text me when you're ready," Kara agreed. "I'm looking forward to hearing your latest 'Supergirl' theories..."
