Merchandising Disaster (Sarah Michelle Gellar)

Most stars don't have strict control of their likeness and merchandise from a show and Sarah Michelle Gellar was no different. And for over 20 years, she was completely unbothered by this arrangement, That was until the Buffy-bots hit the market.

A start-up with heavy backing had perfected the technology to make convincing sex bots. They were as strategic as possible with picking the first model. They found that the existence of Buffy bots on the TV show made it legal to produce them as merchandise without getting approval from the actress. Sarah tried to sue but lost. She thought that maybe it wouldn't be so bad. Maybe they wouldn't actually look good or would be too expensive to spread. But well, just take a look

And this was from a product display at Ikea. The Buffy bots had become so popular that they had completely crossed over into the main stream. Pornhub was flooded with Buffy videos as people acted out every perverted fantasy and scene with them. Some of the videos were Buffy specific, others were just raunchy nonsense.

Sarah was bothered by all of this, but the thing that really bothered her was seeing friends and costars post with the bots. When she would go to set, there was a public Buffy bot for any of the crew to work out their frustration with the genuine person. It was hard to act while you watch yourself get gangbanged in the background. But Sarah wouldn't quit and let them win, no matter how humiliating things got.
