Meeting with his boss

Hunter watched Lucinda's departure, feeling unease at the meeting and the threat he felt from her. With a shrug, he **** his concerns to one side of his mind as he headed back to the office.

Toni the receptionist greeted him with a smile as he walked in.

"Mr. Danson asked if you could see him in his office, Mr. Collins." Hunter nodded. Danson was his boss, the vice-president of accounts. He probably wanted an update on the upcoming presentation, Hunter thought, smiling as he strode confidently to his boss' office.

The door was open. Hunter gave a tap on the door and stepped in, seeing his boss chatting with a very pretty young woman in some easy chairs.

"Hunter! Great of you to join us!" his boss exclaimed as he stood to welcome him. The girl stood as well, turning to Hunter with a polite smile on her face.

"This is my daughter Heather," Danson said, gesturing to the girl. "We were just going over a few last minute details about her wedding Saturday. Mr. Collins is one of our finest minds, my dear, and he and his lovely wife will be attending your wedding."

"Very pleased to meet you Mr. Collins," Heather said with a polite smile as she stepped forward, offering her hand. Hunter took it with a smile, feeling a sudden tremble of the girl's slim fingers. For a moment she bit her lip as though suppressing a gasp, her eyes widening as she looked into his.

"The pleasure is mine," Hunter replied with a gracious smile, his eyes looking into hers. "My wife and I are looking forward to dancing at your wedding." The girl murmured thanks, her face flushed and confused. She retrieved her hand and brushed back her blonde hair slightly as she did so, her eyes flickering on Hunter's face.

"Thank you," she murmured softly, then giving a little gasp of surprise as her father put his arm around her shoulders and gave her a hug.

"She'll be the prettiest bride in the city," her father said proudly. "Glad you could drop by Hunter, I know you have lots to do, but I just wanted you to meet my pride and joy."

"It was a great pleasure," Hunter said with a smile, his eyes looking at Heather one last time before he turned and headed back to his office.
