Chapter 16

Nemo of Utopia
What Kind Of Alarms?
Medical...
Normally I don't pay attention to the medical reports, even with nano-enhancement I only can pay attention to so many things at once and that's not my department, however it's a good thing I did that day. The first few were hardly worth an alarm, I thought, increased reports of headaches among the male crew, but as I scrolled through the file I started to freak out. The symptoms were getting worse, and spreading fast: aggressive behavior, mood swings, sudden fits of rage... My heart literally stopped for a split second at what I read next: ****...
+++I.S.S. Justice: Star Date 13131.043: 03:09:021; Lieutenant-Commander Ricardo Hausa Vandyke has had to be incarcerated in the brig pending trial and subsequent execution by quartering when he was found **** Ensign Ariel Merlot by Commander Stacy Abrabanel. It took 3 members of the ship's marine detachment to fully restrain the Lieutenant-Commander, which has been noted for his defense as no human should be capable of physically overpowering more than one Klingon marine without some sort of un-natural enhancement: which might in turn have rendered him incapable of sound judgement.+++
Something nagged at me, I knew that man's name from somewhere, which in a ship with a 3000 person crew was improbable... I scanned back through the logs I had already read, and there it was plain as day. My guts clenched in fear, as I was one of the first people on board the Justice to recognize what we were dealing with.
"Mission Log: Lieutenant-Commander Ricardo Hausa Vandyke having led the Justice's 23rd Marine Platoon on recon mission into the Pirate Ship "Traitor's Claw" and subsequently into the attached vessel of unknown origin: Star Date 13131.042:"
"We entered the Traitor's Claw through the aft top hatch. As you can see from my attached tricorder readings the place was a wreck. Phase burns all over the walls, bodies everywhere, but not nearly as many as their should have been for the crew of a ship this size. We couldn't crack their encryption, which is in itself odd, pirates should be using outdated tech and sloppy with security right? Anyway I ordered the marines to see if they could get an override code to work on the hatch to the other ship and it opened, it does appear to be a stolen peregrine class."
"We entered the second vessel: I tell you I've never seen anything like it outside a holo-novel, this thing was floor to ceiling red velvet and gold, it looked like some kind of Rysan Bordello except without the class. There were bodies everywhere, not just the pirates either. Women of every skin tone imaginable were scattered across the decks all murdered: some shot, some stabbed or slashed, some apparently gang **** to ****. The stench was indescribable, the air a horrid mix of perfume and rotting humanoid flesh. I admit without reservation to having vomited, and some of the marines did as well."
"Their encryption was far less sophisticated, any Imperial High School Student could have cracked it, in fact the entire ship was downright archaic. The warp drive couldn't have been capable of more than warp 4, the original I.S.S. Avenger could have done better! Don't get me started on their mess hall, the thing had refrigerators for Vulcan's Sake!"
"Anyway a quick search through their logs brought up one compartment which hadn't been opened, so of course we opened it. Inside was the only survivor, She say's her name is 'Minya', and the very first thing she did when I walked in was kiss me full on the mouth! Now I don't want to sound weird here but she is DAMNED good at that, unnaturally so... If I had thought that turning pirate and trying to escape with this woman would have allowed me to kiss her any time I liked: I damned well might have done it. You KNOW me captain, I don't fly off the handle half cocked like that. There is something WRONG with what went on on that ship and we need to find out what."
"Anyway, after I came back to my senses and pried her off me we took her back to the Justice and sent in the code dogs to figure out more of what happened here. For now Minya's in sickbay being tested for STDs, and we gave her some clothing, she says she was a prostitute and was forbidden garments. There's something OFF about this whole business I am telling you. If you want my advice, after we conduct a through investigation we're gonna torpedo that little flying bordello from deep orbit and forget we ever found it: something DAMNED screwy went on there, and we should have no part of it. "
"End Log."
I was sick, I already guessed what had gone on there, and what we had brought aboard.
It is something the search for which is as old as humanity itself, and forbidden by about 50 Imperial laws but conducted none the less in secret all across the Empire: an Aphrodisiac.
Aphrodisiac (Noun.):
1: a substance that increases libido when consumed.
2: a substance or condition exposure to which causes uncontrollable sexual desire.
It's the second one that humans (MALE humans) have been searching for since the dawn of time, and now someone had found it.
But everything didn't go as planned did it? It seemed, as always, it worked more strongly on men (who don't need one) than it did on women (most of whom do, myself not included) and worse it drove men insane.
I was going to call sickbay and warn them to quarantine Minya when I heard a scream out in the corridor and then the sound of phaser fire!
I did what any well trained woman of the fleet would do: I grabbed my own phaser and patched into the security feed in the corridor...
What Did I See, And What Did I DO About It?
