Chapter 3 by RandyLahey RandyLahey

Does it work?

Maybe

"Yes, m'lo-Nathan, I will help you in any way that I can," she says. There was passion in her eyes that Nathan, even with his newfound confidence, was unable to see. He wanted to push it further, but still had not built up that confidence to this point. Even still, she had known him for a while at this point; one conversation was not going to change her entire views on him, even if she did see him differently from this short conversation, a longer conversation than they had ever had.

"Stay here, I'm going to read the letter, and then I will determine our next moves from there," Nathan says, determined to work Lyla into his plans. While he didn't know her motivation like many of the others in this world, the memories showed him that she was likely speaking true and had a great loyalty to House Cox when they took her in when she was very young, when she was in **** need of food and shelter.

"Ok, m-Nathan," she responded, still trying to change her habits from 'm'lord' to 'Nathan'. Nathan then quickly walked over to the letter and tore off the seal. He was excited about what his new father could have in store for him.

Dear Nathan,

My illness has taken a turn for the worse, and I do not have much longer left in this world. The King will likely return soon from his trip to the North to name Lord Eddard Stark as his Hand of the King. The crown is in a tumultuous place with the **** of Lord Jon Arryn. It is important to me that you replace me on the small council upon my ****. I have written to King Robert that this is my will and he will accept, I'm sure of it. You have a much bigger place to play in this world than you know. It is why I have ensured your safety within the castle and not let you visit the outside world. You will understand the reason why when the time is right. I hope you will make it to King's Landing before my ****, but if not, know that the rest of the small council are all playing their own games for their own selfish ambitions, and you mustn't trust any of them, but use them as best you can to further your goals and those of the realm. I have much higher ambitions for you than just the Lord of Woodpine Castle and a member of the small council. You will learn this in time as well.

Your Father,
Lord Jon Cox

An interesting letter that he could not make sense of. What other ambitions did his father have for him? He tried to comb through his newfound memories for any hint at what his father might have meant, but there was nothing. His father had always been rather cold to him, but had made sure that he had given him the best education that he could afford, training him in ruling the Woodpine, commanding armies, among other things. That was all he could think about his father, as nothing else jumped to mind about what he could have meant.

"Lord Cox has summoned me to King's Landing. Make all the provisions necessary, Lyla; we must make haste within the hour," Nathan tells Lyla, who immediately gets to work.

What happens next?
