Maya asks you something
After a couple of hours, Maya closes her notebook and stretches. “I think I’m done for today,” she says. She pauses, then looks at me. “Would you mind walking back with me? I left one of my notebooks in my dorm, and I really don’t feel like going all the way back by myself.”
“Yeah, sure,” I say.
We pack up our things and leave the library together. As we walk across campus, I feel a slight hesitation. I think about my girlfriend again. I’m just walking a classmate back to her dorm, I tell myself. There’s nothing wrong with that.
Still, I can’t shake the feeling that I’m getting a little too comfortable with a situation I hadn’t planned on being in.
