Maximoff
In the year 1682, in a small village on the outskirts of Moscow, within the vast expanse of the Russian Empire, a girl named Wanda Maximoff was born. Her father, Erik, was a humble blacksmith descended from Romani migrants who had settled in Russia, and her mother, Maria, a mysterious woman with ancient Slavic roots who whispered tales of the witch Baba Yaga to her children. Russia in those days was under the rule of the Romanov tsars, but a storm was brewing: Peter, a tall and ambitious young man who would later be known as Peter the Great, was plotting to modernize this backward land. Wanda, with her fiery red hair and eyes that seemed to hide the depths of the Siberian forests, was different from childhood. She had strange dreams: visions of a future filled with iron machines, cities with towering spires, and men in Western attire transforming Russia.
Wanda discovered her powers in her teenage years, as Peter the Great seized power in 1689 and began his reforms. But these powers came not from Infinity Stones or Hydra experiments, but from the dark heart of Russian history and ancient Slavic magic. It all started on a stormy night in 1695, when Peter marched on Moscow to crush the Streltsy rebellion—the old tsarist guards furious at his reforms that destroyed ancient traditions. Wanda’s village lay in the path of this war. The Streltsy, enraged, raided the settlements. The Maximoff home burned in flames, Wanda’s parents fell beneath the swords, and her little brother, Pietro, vanished after fleeing the attackers with unbelievable speed.
Alone and wounded amid the ruins, Wanda screamed. Her pain and rage were a storm unto themselves. In that moment, something awakened. According to local legends, hidden in the forests around Moscow was an ancient temple to the Slavic gods—a shrine to Chernobog, the god of darkness and chaos. Wanda, whose Romani blood mingled with old magic, was unwittingly drawn to this temple. Fleeing, she took refuge in a dark cave that served as its entrance. There, among ancient runes and broken statues, the spirit of Chernobog—or perhaps a cosmic chaos energy veiled in Slavic myth—bonded with her. This energy, akin to Chaos Magic in the modern world, fed on Wanda’s fury. She bent reality: the fires around her turned to crimson roses, her parents’ corpses briefly revived and spoke to her, and the invading soldiers lost themselves in illusions, slaughtering one another.
When Wanda emerged from the cave, her powers had blossomed. She could read and control minds—like magical hypnosis that **** the Streltsy to surrender. She altered reality: healing her wounds or temporarily restoring the burned village to its former state. Crimson energy burst from her hands, destroying or creating objects at will. But the powers came at a cost: each use revived the painful memories of her parents, driving her to the edge of madness.
Peter the Great, hearing rumors of a red-clad sorceress in his wars, summoned Wanda to his court in the fledgling city of St. Petersburg, still under construction. Peter, a modern man fascinated by Western science, initially saw Wanda as a weapon for his campaigns—against the Swedes in the Great Northern War. Wanda bolstered Peter’s armies with her abilities: crafting illusions to deceive enemies or warping battlefield reality to deflect musket balls. But Wanda was more than a tool; she fell in love with Peter, or perhaps was captivated by his ambition. Peter dubbed her the “Scarlet Witch” and used her magic in building his navy—ships conjured from nothing by her spells.
Yet Wanda’s powers were uncontrollable. In 1703, as St. Petersburg sank into its swamps, Wanda bent reality so fiercely that the city briefly became a modern paradise—but this sparked rebellion, as the people deemed it the work of the devil. Hunted by the Orthodox Church, Wanda fled to the forests, searching for Pietro. She vowed to reshape Russia into a better world, but the chaos within her was ever a threat.
In the end, Wanda Maximoff became neither hero nor villain, but a **** of chaos in Peter the Great’s era—a woman whose powers were born from the darkness of history and ancient magic, forever altering Russia. What if she had stayed? Perhaps the Russian Empire would have risen to global dominance sooner… or perhaps everything would have drowned in a scarlet chaos.
