Mary heads to Lovers' Lane, but the car gets stuck

The night is young. You get in your car -- freshly oil-changed and tire-inflated, to no one's good but the car. You open your purse, tuck Darla's card in, and tug out a couple of wet wipes.

A little face-wash and a stick of gum later, you take a deep breath. Maybe Lovers' Lane would be the best place to go. Just soak in some young love. It's warm again after the afternoon thunderstorm, so you'd bet there's someone there looking for a place to take their love, well, out of town.

One glass of wine on top of mac-and-cheese should be fine for driving. You turn the key and head toward Lovers' Lane, wishing Darla a sweet time with her faraway husband.

The commonest place for young folks to go parking is an abandoned sandpit on the edge of town. It's a little tricky to get to, but that means it's less likely to have casual meddlers. Only if it's a really slow night for Smokey Bear, or if someone calls in some trouble.

You leave the county road at an unmarked turnoff you know well. Since the drive-in closed, there aren't as many places to go. You turn from headlights to parking lights and ease your way over a low hill.

Roll +COOL(+0) to STALK some folks at Lovers' Lane. 9 = On a 7-9, you find them in a public place, or there's trouble in your way.

"Well, will God bless it!" you burst out. Your car has lost traction and is spinning its wheels. With just the parking lights on, you must have followed some ruts off the road proper.

This was turning into a full day of having Heaven snatched from your grasp. You'd be tempted to head right on home and visit Mr. Shower Hose, but you don't seem to be going anywhere. You try some back-and-forth with the car, but it appears that you'll need some boost to the traction on the driving wheels. Flattened cardboard box, maybe. You'd heard that deflating the tires gave you extra traction on sand, but you'd just gotten them pumped up.

At least there were a few cars there. It would be more than a little embarrassing to find yourself all alone at night at Lovers' Lane.
