Chapter 3 by falconz499 falconz499

Who are the contestants?

Marlin Fisher

Marlin stood at the liquor store counter as the clerk scanned his idea and did every test imaginable to prove it was a fake. It wasn’t. Marlin had never used a fake ID in his life. He’d never had too.

Marlin had joined the military straight out of high school. He’d loved every second of it. The brotherhood. The feeling he got serving his country. He even enjoyed the shitty food in the mess. He was thinking about all of the things he would do in his military career when it had all changed. He’d broken his femur during a training exercise during his third year of his initial eight year commitment. That was all it took to get a medical discharge. Now without much sense of direction he’d enrolled in school as a 22 year old freshman, he’d been able to go to bars and buy booze his entire time on campus.

Two things though always got Marlin the fake ID third degree. One was his name. The irony of being called Marlin Fisher wasn’t lost on him. His dad had always joked that his mom had been too **** up in the delivery room to stop him from picking whatever name he chose. The second was Marlin was black and as such folks automatically suspected him to be a rule breaker.

While Marlin waited his phone buzzed informing him that he’d been selected to participate in the competition. Ever since he had left the military he missed the adrenaline rush he had gotten from combat. He’d never been able to replicate it. Not with roller coasters or bungee jumping. He’d even gone skydiving and still nothing. So he’d signed up hoping to be selected and hoping that he could find the rush he so craved.

Physical Description: Marlin is a large and imposing character. Over 6’ tall with broad shoulders and bigger muscles, he kept himself in shape post military career. He has a large black beard that he keeps well maintained and close cropped hair. Despite his large size he is a gentle giant. Never quick to anger and always trying to take a thoughtful approach to whatever situations he encountered. Due to the broken leg he suffered and the fact that it didn’t heal properly he still walks with a slight limp. Nothing that affects his mobility, but something that gives him a very pronounced gait.
