Chapter 220 by robyna
Is this going anywhere? I thought we were going to do marketing... and have sex
Marketing is coming... but there's a catch
"The way I figure it," Rick said, "we contact the chairman of Bio-DNA, a scientist named Sherry Boyle. We persuade her that she can make more money, be elected President, and pick up the Nobel Prize while she's at it if she sells bio-DNA to the government for maybe 5 percent of the annual health budget and then runs for President as the ultimate problem solver.
"And she says 'thank you very much but you're still fired,'" Jan pointed out.
"But Dan gets fired too because he didn't think of anything like this," Rick fired back.
"She isn't going to let Dan hang for a murder rap," Tiffany argued. "And that's what we need. Plus, why should some woman who just happens to be chairman of bio-DNA get all of the money and all of the fame?"
"Think about it," Eliza said, "the reason Dan can't be questioned and bio-DNA is able to run roughshod over every law on the books is because they have money. Politicians, from those running the suburbs here to the state legislators in Austin to Washington DC are afraid to take on those with money because money means people listen to you."
"Hello Miss Obvious," Nicki said. "And they have money but we don't."
"Well," Rick and Kat said at the same time, "there's that poker thing."
Eliza shook her head. "I'm not talking about a few thousand dollars. That kind of money doesn't even whisper. You'll need millions. Maybe hundreds of millions. You could win every poker tournament in the world for a decade without coming close."
Rick suspected she was wrong... there was more money in poker than most people realized. Still, he wasn't going to win every tournament in the world for a decade and even if he could, he didn't have a decade.
Still, he didn't need to.
"It's stakes money. We're not going to make real money in poker, we'll make it in the stock market. Because when word gets out that bio-DNA can replace just about every hospital, shut down every insurance company, gut all of the big pharma companies, there's going to be stock market carnage. And when that happens, someone is going to get very rich. I'd just as soon it was us."
So, off to a recap of the poker tournament?

Fired
Hacking a new Future
Rick Peters is a marketing manager for a bio-tech company and thinks his future is made with the success of his latest marketing campaign. Instead, he's fired--the company wants to bring in younger, cheaper talent. Thanks to non-compete agreements, Rick's career options aren't good and thanks to his long-time dedication to the company that just shafted him, Rick doesn't have much of a love life to fall back on, either. Rick has to make some choices and some changes to his life. He can pursue revenge, try to make his own millions, or even search for personal fulfilment. One thing is certain, if he doesn't do something, he'll quickly end up homeless and on the street.
