Marigold looked from the strange man behind her curtain, to Terri, and back again. She felt like she was in shock. When Lynn had told the Brigadiers that they were bringing on a new member, she had been skeptical at first; the BB Brigade had always been only the four of them. But Lynn had managed to convince her that this 'StartingGunner' woman would be a good addition to the team, and a good friend to all of them as well.
Marigold had given up her suspicions and tried to become friends with Terri. It had taken a while, but Marigold had finally felt comfortable around her. Comfortable enough, even, to change in the same room. She didn't even do that with Lynn on most days.
But if this stranger was to be believed, and he had no real reason to lie anymore, then apparently all of that had been a ruse. Had Terri really gotten into the room to look for Marigold's underwear?
Marigold looked around. Her suitcase was nowhere to be seen. Someone had taken her clothes, including her underwear. Did the fact that Terri was still here now mean that she had brought accomplices with her? Was this strange guy one of those accomplices? Where had the others gone with her suitcase? She remembered locking the door behind her when she had come into the room for a shower. If someone wanted to get into the hotel room to steal her underwear, they would have to have a key... or they would have to know the BB Brigadiers' secret policy about hiding their keys. Had this been Terri's plan all along? Was this the real reason that 'StartingGunner' had joined the BB Brigade?
Marigold felt herself welling up with tears. She wanted to look away, but she couldn't. She could only look at the face of the woman that she had thought would be one of her new and best friends. "T-Terri," she said, wiping away a tear from her cheek. "H-how could you?"
