Was the teacher male or female?

Male.

"Afternoon, Nina." A dark haired, middle-aged man replied, in his deep voice. "A little early, aren't we?" He asked, looking at his watch.

"I am Sir, but I much prefer being 5 minutes early, then 5 minutes late." Nina teplied.

"Can't fault you on that, I'm the same." He replied.

A couple moments passed in silence, as both Nina and Mr Andrews made sure they were organised, then other students began entering the room and taking their seats. Each student came in with a worried look on their face, which made Nina smirk a little.

RIIIIIIIIIIING!

The school bell rang, signalling the start of class.

"Okay students, lets get cracking." Mr Andrews announced, as he closed the door to the his classroom. "Now I've marked your tests and I can say I'm happy with all of your work and I'll hand them back to you near the end of today." He continued as he paced at the the front of class.

"Based on these pictures, who can tell me what we are moving onto next." Mr Andrews asked the class.

On the screen was images of: flags of several countries and s date above them all, 1914. Several people had risen their hands, but before Mr Andrews could pick on somebody, the door burst open. Two puffing students stood in the door way. Mr Andrews was scowling so much that he actually formed a unibrow.

"So, sorry Sir." A girl said, puffing.

"Lost... track of time, Sir." A guy said, clutching his chest.
