Makeshift Family

Chae could hardly believe that in the matter of just two weeks, she was the mother of four children. Three girls and a boy. Her dear old mum would be proud. She always did like to breathe down her neck to hurry and have a family. What're the chances she'd be smiling in the afterlife now?

"Careful now."

Chae mused, holding CJ's hands and helping her wobble around. She'd only just picked up the hand of walking. So her running scared the young parent.

"Do you want to play with your brother? He keeps looking at you."

She knew that CJ couldn't understand completely yet since she was still a toddler, but everyday she grew wiser and smarter.

"Come on then."

She led CJ over to where Oaken was playing with his plushie teddy bear and laid out on the quilt in the grass. They'd taken to sleeping in tents that Addy had brought with them. There were enough tents for everyone to have their own... but Addy and Chae shared one as they had grown much closer with each other than anyone else and it was a respected difference among the make shift family.
