Athena’s moving around strangely, trying to jockey for a position that will help her escape. You have to admire her determination, but you’ve got too much leverage for her to get loose, and you tell her as much: “Give it up. This hold is only breaking when I decide it does.”

Athena grits her teeth in defiance. “I am a Goddess, you upstart creature...I will not fall...before...”

But you can tell she’s losing her will to keep fighting. Your chokehold isn’t perfect, but her breathing is labored and her attempts to escape are getting easier and easier to stop. It’s only a matter of time.

To her credit, Athena makes it a full fifteen more seconds before tapping out on the mat. She doesn’t scream, either in pain or anger—you’re not sure whether she’s disciplined herself too well for it or if she just doesn’t have enough air in her lungs to manage.

Either way, you let her go. She sucks in a few deep breaths of air as she slowly climbs to her feet.

“The point I’ve lost here will be repaid in kind many times over,” she warns you, grey eyes turning stormy.

“Maybe,” you reply as you stare her down. “How does that old saying go? Right, I remember.”

Your eyes narrow as you meet her gaze dead on.

“Come and take them.”
