Magic.

This seemed obvious enough. In every reference I'd read of it, the miracle of love was magic that allowed two lovers to be joined. I'd pick a safe answer and let them fill in the missing blanks themselves.

"Is magic required for the miracle of love, Zepar?" Furfur asked his/her partner, speaking in a furtive tone behind my head.

"Mister Player is close now! Does he advance? For the miracle of love, magic is..."

"Not required!!" the two both shouted behind my head, causing me to flinch.

What? What do you mean it isn't required? Why would I be wasting my time with this if the miracle could be granted without magic?!

"Mister Player, a new couple is joined every day, every hour! Many go on to lead happy lives!" Zepar told me, bringing his/her head back around front to show me a toothy grin.

"Do you believe that every one of these couples is granted love by a miracle of magic?" Furfur asked, bringing his/her face next to Zepar's.

"The two of us can't be all places at once!" the two announced to laughter from the audience.

"To explain it simply, Mister Player, magic is only required when love is otherwise impossible..."

"Your case, in other words!"
