Chapter 3 by gmbynight gmbynight

Who buys the game?

Maggie and Mabel, twins

"I bought you something!"

She had found the box of cards in an antique shop down the street. It was the perfect way she could raise Mabel's morale after her terrible breakup. Her sister always had a fondness for witchy esthetics and tarots, so no better way to distract her than with this game/card reading thingy. She had gotten home fast, skimming through the rule just to be ready. She had already taken a good look at the cards and the silly mystical phrases associated with them to be interpreted and suppressed a small laugh. She was never into this kind of stuff, only just went along with it because of her sister. These cards were not actually the usual major Arcana, and the explanations were vague, yes, but most of them didn't really make sense. She could only hope her sister would at least enjoy the effort.

"Madame Yilda's Communal Readings. A Tarot Experience by Lord VonRavensburg. If this is half as cringy as the title would suggest I promise not to kick you in the ass." Mabel said smiling a fake innocent smile. Maggie knew she would never actually do that anyway, but appreciated her effort in trying to sound menacing. They sat down and shuffled the deck, ready to try this thing out. The moment they placed the first card face down a slight breeze trickled in the room, raising the hair in the back of their neck. Maggie looked up at her sister. The only differences between the two was that Maggie was slightly in better shape, just some slight muscle definition given by her swimming, Mabel had a darker look overall, with dark makeup and purple lipstick and Maggie had her hair cut shorter.

They both picked up three cards. "This is the physical composition. To better know who you are as a person, first you must understand how people perceive your looks. Your partner in this reading will help you with that. Please both put a card upside down, a card downside up and a card sideways. The first will be interpreted as a positive boon, the second as a negative bane and the third as a gift from the gods." Read Mabel from the instructions.

Maggie looked at the three cards. She had number X, number XXI and number XV. She skimmed the descriptions:

  • Malachy LeFay: The god of tricks and mischief. Fun and faeries will wait for you in this road, but don't get too charmed.
  • Màdre: Mother Nature, the oldest goddess. Life is the most important thing in the world, and you will have a new outlook on it's importance.
  • Flegias: Lord of Contracts. The devil is insidious, and it's time you embrace his corruption.

But what to play, what to play?

What's next?

More fun
