Maggie's Mother comes home

Maggie and Dave lie naked in each others arms, spent and happy.

"Margarette are you home yet?"

"Oh no, it's mum" says Maggie.

Dave grabs the bone from the bedside table. "Sleep" he orders Maggie.

He waits a few moments and sure enough Maggie's mother appears in the doorway. She gets a look on her face like she might scream.

Dave stops her. "Mrs. Simmons" he says "you're not only not mad about what you are seeing you're totally pleased. The fact that Maggie is happy and has found a man to love her makes you feel as if you have done your duty as a mother. You are also happy that I am the man she has found since you know how much she cares for me, and I for her."

Maggie's mother smiles at you. "It's good to see that Margarette has finally become a woman." She says "Do you need anything or should I just let you two sleep?"

"We're fine Mrs. Simmons" says Dave, "but before you go…"

Dave looks at Mrs. Simmons. The poor woman always looks so unhappy and severe, always frowning and looking 10 years older than her 42 years. Dave supposes it comes from having to raise Maggie, a gymnastics and academic prodigy, on her own after Maggie's father just up and left. It wasn't until about a year ago when she met Mr. Simmons that she had any real help. Maggie freely admits she was a nightmare when she was young. Dave decides that Mrs. Simmons needs a break. Grabbing the bone he wishes that all the marks of her hard life as the single mother be erased so she can look her age (or maybe younger). As he watches Mrs. Simmons goes from looking like his Audrey Hepburn in her later years to how Audrey Hepburn might have look before she began her film carrier.

"Yes" asks Mrs. Simmons.

"When is your husband coming home?" asks Dave.

"Not till next week, he'll be so happy about Maggie and you. I just know it"

Not unless I get to him thinks Dave as he lies down and goes to sleep.
