Mage

Your room is at the top of Sylane's Tower, high above the homes of others. The Tower is famous in your kingdom because it was once the home of Waedwyr the Wise, and the place where he fought the first line of defence against the Dragons in the Time of the Madness. Waedwyr, who lived many centuries ago, was your grandfather, and taught you many things, though you have had many other excellent teachers as well. When your grandfather Sailed in the Crossing, he gave you the key to his room and all its contents as his parting gift.

Many of the strange items in his collection, collected over hundreds of years of adventuring, are a complete mystery to you and remain safely ensconced in their protective wards. Some of them you have learned a little about, and you plan on bringing with you on your adventure. Looking over them all fills you with a powerful feeling of comfort and nostalgia, feelings which all too often trap your kind in the walls of your own homes, preventing you from ever setting out on your own adventures. Resolutely, you shake your head, and set your jaw, breaking the spell. You are the granddaughter of Waedwyr the Wise! As he travelled, far and wide across the many lands of Valendrel and beyond, so shall you!

You open a pair of ornate wooden doors and step out onto the balcony. From here, you can see for miles, over the tops of even the highest oaks, elms, and firs of the Myrmadrel Valley, all the way to the Ironstone Mountains, where the Dwarves dwell. Although it is summer, at this height, even the gentle breeze is cool enough to make you shiver in your gossamer gown. You hug your bare arms with your long, slender hands. This is the feeling, you think. This chill is the chill of adventure, the thrill of excitement that lies outside your home in the wild world beyond.

You turn and go back inside, shutting the doors behind you and locking them with a charm. It is time to prepare.
