Mackenzie hides in the river

In the end, Mackenzie decided to hide in the river among the reeds. She let out a silent squeak as her waded into the cold water, letting out a small hiss as she ducked down into the reeds. She lowered herself down into the water until she was neck deep, whimpering in disgust as she felt the mud on her feet and butt and the cold water over her skin. She lowered her head, burying it in the reeds as she closed her eyes and held her breath. The man and the woman came to a stop right next to her.

"Did you hear that?" the woman asked, clearly not believing what her ears were telling her.

"Of course I did! That was a woman's scream!" The man replied.

"Did you see anything?"

"No, but..."

Mackenzie could have sworn she felt something brush past her leg. She shrugged it off. It was most likely a fish.

"It was probably nothing," the man said.

"Yeah, you're probably right." The woman said with a shrug as she and the man walked away, "I just could've sworn that I heard someone scream."

Mackenzie bit her lip as she watched the two walk away. She let out a sigh of relief as she slowly stood up, her entire body below her neck wet and covered in mud. She had just stepped onto the river bank when she heard a pair of surprised gasps. Looking over her shoulder, Mackenzie blushed a bright crimson as she saw the man and woman stare at her with slack-jawed expressions. The redhead merely shrieked as she ran through the forest, humiliated at her blunder. She had to get out of there!

She ran, barefoot, through the wilderness in the opposite direction as the two before her.

She was partially glad that the mud was covering her body, but she knew that it wouldn't last long. She had to find a way out of there!
