Chapter 7
by BlueKnight
What will happened later in the following morning?
Lynne decided to tell Zander the truth
After he found himself in Lynne's room, Zander returned to his room as silently as possible, having no interest of waking her up.
Obviously, he has no idea what just happened when he was sleeping and dreaming. But it does not matter at the moment. Right now, all he wanted to do is going back to sleep.
Later in the morning, Lynne and Zander are sitting at the table in the kitchen and have breads with spread with butter and fried eggs for breakfast.
At the moment, both of them do nothing but eating their breakfasts, allowing the awkward silence to form the atmosphere. And it does not take long for Zander to had enough of it and decide to break it.
"So... about what happened last night-" Zander said but before he can finished it, Lynne accidentally spilled the mead back into the mug.
"Zander, we are not going to speak about what happened last night!" Lynne said in serious tone, knowing that she needed not to play dumb if he decided to be direct about it.
"But I have to! What just happened?! Why did I fuck you while I was sleeping?! And who was that woman in blue robe in my dream?!" Zander said as he's slamming his right hand on the table!
Upon seeing how serious he is and the fact that he already has a sword, Lynne decided that it might be for the best to tell him who he really is. Plus, she already fulfilled the final duty she has been tasked to do last night as well.
Before she said anything, she just stared at her plate that has two fried eggs blankly before letting out a sigh.
"You're the Queen's son." Lynne said as she's reaching out to grab a loaf of bread on the basket in the middle of the table.
"I am what?!" Zander asked her, making sure he did not hear what she just said wrongly.
"You're the son of the last Queen of Duskath." Lynne said as she's looking down at the bread in her hands with a frown.
"You mean... I am a Prince?!" Zander asked her again, having a bit of hope that he might be the one who get to restore Duskath.
"Well... that is a complicated." Lynne said, still keeping the frown on her face.
"What do you mean by that?" Zander asked, not understanding why she said it is complicated at all.
"You are the son of the Queen, yes. But... your father... is not the King." Lynne said as she's looking at him with a sad smile.
"Wait! You mean I-" Zander said but before he can finished it, Lynne interrupted him.
"Yes, you are the result of an affair between the Queen and one of her childhood friends, the son of the last Captain of the Royal Guards." Lynne said as she's closing her eyes before taking a bite of her bread.
"So... that means I cannot restore Duskath, let alone having the right to the throne?" Zander asked, feeling his hope about being a royal crushed inside his chest.
"Not... exactly. You see, the last King and the last Queen of Duskath are cousins. Your family came from a long line of mixed heritages between humans and dark elves. And on multiple occasions, cousin marriages occurred." Lynne said as she's looking back at him again.
"But... that doesn't make any sense! Why the Queen, my mother, cheated on the King with my father?!" Zander said as he's putting his hands around his head, wondering why he is even born in the first place.
"Despite being dear friends with each other, they never truly loved each other. Their marriage was arranged since they were young." Lynne said as she's slicing one of the fried eggs on her dish and take a bite.
"And how do you know so much about this?" Zander asked his surrogate mother.
"Because I was one of the Queen's childhood friends and her personal maid. One of the peoples she trusted the most, in fact." Lynne said before she takes another bite of the sliced piece of fried egg.
After Zander learned the truth, he just put his hands around his head. This is a lot to process. It was like his life screwed him before he was even born! He is a Prince of Duskath! But he is also a royal bastard! And despite the fact that his biological mother was the King's cousin, he is not the King's child! So his claim to the throne is partially legitimate at best and not legitimate at worst!
"So... this means Duskath is gone forever?" Zander asked Lynne, clearly **** for an alternative despite knowing how much unlikely it is.
"Not unless you found your same-age niece." Lynne said in serious tone before taking a bite of the bread that is spread with butter.
"Wait? What did you just say?!" Zander asked her, wanting her to repeat it again.
"Your half-brothers had wives. One of them given birth to your niece roughly around the same time as you were being born. The other one, however, was still pregnant the last time I saw her. The child in the belly of your first sister-in-law and your same-age niece have legitimate claims to the throne." Lynne said as she's chewing her food.
"So... they can restored Duskath?!" Zander asked her back, feeling quite hopeful about this news.
"If one of them wanted to, of course. Just because you found them does not mean they will automatically agreed to help you restore Duskath. That was why..." Lynne said as she's remembering what happened last night.
"That was why I fucked you while I was dreaming, right?" Zander asked, having finally understand why what happened last night happened in the first place.
"If neither of those two agreed to help you, you will be the only one who can restore Duskath. But considering that your claim is dubious at best, it will be hard to find supports. This is why the top priority is... was... securing an heir." Lynne said the true purpose of the possible ultimate fruit of labor that might come from their actions together last night as she's also looking down at her belly while rubbing her belly with her left hand.
"So..." Lynne said as she's looking back at Zander right in the eyes.
"What will you do now?" Lynne asked her surrogate son.
What will be Zander's next move after he learned his true origins?
